Petrochemical Lobbyists Email Trump EPA Administrator Zeldin, Ask to Exempt β€œAll Sources” from Limits on Toxic Pollution Petrochemical lobbyists are asking the Trump EPA to provide an exemption for β€œall sources” es” required to meet national limits on hazardous pollution.

The petrochemical industry is jumping at EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin's offer of a free pass to pollute. This means some of the worst polluters will sidestep key standards that protect communities from toxic pollution. Our full statement: www.edf.org/media/petroc...

As Oceans Warm, Predators Are Falling Out of Sync with Their Prey In the sea as on land, climate change is driving shifts in the abundance and distribution of species. Scientists are just beginning to focus on why some fish predators and prey β€” like striped bass and...

As oceans warm, predators and their prey are falling out of sync.

Each winter sardines migrate up the coast of South Africa. But with warming, sardines are arriving later, and their predators are missing a feast.

In a first, the U.S. saw wind and solar supply more power than coal last year.

But even as renewables made gains, U.S. emissions stayed flat.

Ridgeline chart showing the distribution of global daily air temperature differences from the pre-industrial reference period (1850-1900), for every year between 1940 and 2024. Each individual year resembles a hill, shaded in a darker shade of red and further to the right for warmer years. The trend is clearly towards warmer years, with 2024 standing out as first year above 1.5C.

NEW: 2024 has just been confirmed as the warmest year on record, and the first to breach the 1.5C threshold.

We used a ridgeline (Joy Division inspired) chart to visualise daily temperature anomalies since 1940.

2024 clearly stands out with 100% of its days above 1.3C and 75% above 1.5C.

U.S. Support and New Investments Buoy Hopes for Marine Energy Producing energy from waves and tides has a stop-and-start history. But with a new U.S. testing site opening in 2026, recent federal investment, and accelerating efforts to reach net zero emissions, d...

Experts say wave energy is at an inflection point.

Spurred on by new federal spending, start-ups are testing designs that could make it possible to harness the power of the ocean at scale.

Urban inequality, the housing crisis and deteriorating water access in US cities - Nature Cities Meehan and colleagues study access to running water in large US cities since 1970, finding that the 2008 financial crisis worsened household β€˜plumbing poverty’ in many cities. This disproportionately impacted households of color and generally squeezed lower-income households into more precarious living situations.

What Does "Normal" Mean, Anyway? Setting a basis of comparison for weather

At this time of year, you'll hear a lot of talk about how the past year compared to "normal" or how this winter compares to "normal" so far. But "normal" does not mean the same thing to a meteorologist as it does in everyday conversation. So, as Mama Gump said, what DOES "normal" mean, anyway? πŸ§ͺ

Harmful gas billowing from Texas and New Mexico comes mostly from smaller leaks, researchers say Huge quantities of methane, a powerful greenhouse gas, are being emitting by oil and gas operators in the 75,000-square-mile Permian Basin straddling Texas and New Mexico.

New research indicates that over 70% of U.S. oil and gas methane emissions comes from smaller sources that often go undetected. Many small methane leaks can be just as dangerous as one big one, but MethaneSAT will soon help us detect these pollution sources.
