I am slightly, only slightly, reassured that other countries such as Italy and Belgium managed to function with sub-optimal governments. When all is said and done this is not good.

We grew some in Touraine. If I remember rightly the plants need quite a lot of water.

When we had a courtesy car from our small garage in a local town it turned out to be a very old Simca. I felt years younger when I drive it. We had a white Renault 4 at the time which I adored.

The thatched village reminds me of one that we visited in Korea a few years ago.

Good! The french language has a perfectly adequate vocabulary of its own and does not need to borrow words from others. I accept that some foreign words have long been adopted and I can live with that.

Streets round here are cleaned most days. After the festival there is virtually no sign of the enormous number of flyers and posters that the festival engenders.

Half the fun is finding out about places and their history yourself.

Nothing beats the South of France, especially at meal times.
