Last week, several members of Dylan Saba’s extended family were killed in the bombing of the Saint Porphyrius Church of Gaza. He spoke with Darryl Li about grief and the tectonic shifts underway in the Israel-Palestine conflict.

a lot of useful background and insight in this interview with toufic haddad, including the chilling observation that for the zentity apartheid is just a holding pattern for worse things to come

Gallant commanded Israeli forces in Gaza in the 1990s and was the architect of the 2008-2009 onslaught. Gunning to be a three-time loser here.
09.10.2023 14:01 — 👍 1 🔁 1 💬 0 📌 0seeing the video of the abominable erez crossing in the hands of the colonized reminded me of all the times i walked through there marveling at how empty it seemed, like dude where are the soldiers at.
of course politics is about making the inconceivable suddenly seem obvious.
we can't rule out the possibility -- and the zentity surely hasn't -- that there are other cadres who crossed the fence but remain hidden and will only strike later. which is to say the feeling of unsettlement will continue to haunt.
09.10.2023 04:01 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0this holding of space disrupts any clear sense of inside/outside, front/rear. it is also likely complicating any planning for an invasion of gaza's populated areas, rendering the staging areas for such an operation insecure and buying crucial time
09.10.2023 04:00 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0it's been 48 hours and they _still_ haven't reasserted control over the area. unforeseen because inconceivable in the arrogant mindset of colonialism.
09.10.2023 03:59 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0what happened now was no mere 'infiltration,' sneaking through the fence to disrupt. by holding space, they actively un-settled the colonial state's sense of territorialized normality.
09.10.2023 03:59 — 👍 1 🔁 1 💬 1 📌 0this builds on the achievements and sacrifices of the freedom march, which turned the fence into a site of mass protest and confrontation at immense human cost and did much to puncture its aura of invincibility
09.10.2023 03:59 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0the achievement this week was for the colonized to make the fence permeable to themselves too, to reverse ever so slightly the logic of the frontier
09.10.2023 03:59 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0mass confinement meant armed resistance was limited to projectiles or infiltration. the former had to deal with challenges of range and accuracy, the latter was extremely difficult and dangerous. the area around the fence was depopulated, razed, and turned into a kill zone.
09.10.2023 03:58 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0this is why almost immediately after the disengagement in 2005, the army was back inside the gaza strip a few days later and it was a non-event. it wasn't a 're-invasion' or a 'return' because they never really left, just moved their barracks a few kilometers away
09.10.2023 03:58 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0a key precept of zionist doctrine is that there is no *border* with the gaza strip. a border means you relinquish authority over the other side. the fence is a frontier -- a line with no permanence, one that only the colonizer can traverse.
