In some places they're building gas or diesel generators specifically for datacenters, not tied into the grid at all, not operated like normal generation. So if something happens to everybody else don't worry, the fucking AI will still be online and unable to contribute to grid recovery

These things are such a menage to grid stability. We're having to collect data like ramp rates from our generators we'vw never needed to before cause data center load can vary so much so quickly. I saw one where the initial proposal allowed 500MW swings every few seconds, nothing can support that

Like even when its a regular industrial customer rate payers will get added stability, redundancy, relay and reliability upgrades, etx. And I'm damn proud of how well we do in my region. Its just that here? We need tons of new special equipment just to stabilize the MASSIVE datacenter load

On one hand I like working in power. Keeping people's lights on is always a good thing. It just sucks that we're gonna charge everybody to connect datacenters. That's the way its always done, everybody shares infrastructure prices. But here that's just bullshit. The rate payers don't benefit at all
