18.01.2026 14:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thanks. I've considered that, but I'm not sufficiently invested in the project to go to that much trouble.
There are other projects I hope to complete before I reach my "use by" date.
Thank you.

Front view of a hand-knitted sock. White (neutral or natural) sock yarn from Bendigo Woollen Mills in Australia. Pattern has some lovely detail; something like anchors up the leg.
Side view of the solo sock.
Other side.
Solo sock: even the back of the leg has some detail ... and there's even some pattern work on the heel.

I need help, please. I've knitted one sock (with some lovely detail) but I've lost the pattern and I can't knit the second sock.
If someone can show where I can find the pattern, great; if not, I think I've a sock for an amputee.
A well- thought out and respectful summary for this reflective season imo.So if you could spare 11 minutes .... Happy New Year π #knitting #crochet #makeyourown #permaculture

Image shows the last stitch of a pinkish Shetland lace scarf scarf with a tiny tail that's the remnants of the ball of yarn (lace weight kid silk) ... so close! In the background is an indigenous Australian painting from Ali Curung in central Australia (between Alice Springs and Tennant Creek). The painting has a blue background and a various coloured dots. The scarf is for a friend at church. I call the scarf a "Twenty-five grams of love" project (referencing the weight of the ball of yarn).

Image is a poster detailing the shortcomings of the Budapest Memorandum and how Ukraine was betrayed.
A US security guarantee isn't worth a pinch of shit!
Why?
The Budapest Memorandum, that's why.
Blue scarf knitted with one 25g ball of kid silk yarn. The pattern is derived from traditional Shetland lace.
Scarves don't have to be boring.
19.08.2025 10:45 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Cable knitting in orange wool. It was intended to be a jumper, but came out far too big, so it was ripped back to balls of yarn and turned into a blanket.
I've been knitting since about 1983 and I can assure you that you'll keep on making mistakes. They become more adventurous. See my recent Shetland lace post, for example.
And this pic shows a mistake I call 2P2K, which means too pissed to knit (I misread the pattern).
I hope you enjoy the adventure.
Quinces are in season in autumn (fall). Try making some; I doubt you'll be disappointed.
19.08.2025 10:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The collage of photos is intended to help people see the benefit of blocking knitted fabric. Some people say they never block anything.
Fresh off the needles, it is a scrunched-up mess.
After blocking, the beauty and complexity of the pattern jump out ... it's like a completely different fabric!
The sample images show the scrunched up sample straight off the needles, the sample being "blocked" (pinned out to dry after washing or dampening), the finished sample. The samples pictured are made from 1 ply lace yarn (Shetland wool) also called cobweb yarn. These pics show some recreated lace patterns from Shetland's past. In this pic the sample is called Zigzag and mesh stitch sample.
See alt text for the other pic for more detail. The pattern being shown here is: Single Diamond Drop on alternating sides.

My samples project (from Carol Christiansen's "Shetland Fine Lace Knitting") has resumed.
Not only am I learning how to knit Shetland lace but I'm also learning how to knit 1-ply yarn.

Pic shows a tower of jars of ruby hued quince jelly glistening in the sunlight.
The sound ... contentment.
Here's a pic of my recent batch of quince jelly (QJ to my kids); previous batch was made about 40 years ago!
@jimknits.bsky.social you look like you have a lot of fun with your knitting.
Goodonya.
Thanks. See my reply to @wohinjetzt.bsky.social for explanation.
18.08.2025 12:38 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Pic shows Tingwall tea cosy pattern and yarn kit from Shetland. The kit arrived as a welcome distraction from the Aran sweater in the background. The natural, cream coloured jumper is now being worn almost daily in the southern hemisphere winter.
They are the colours recommended in the pattern.

21.07.2025 21:37 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I live in Australia where this garment will be unsuitable for much of the year, but perfect at other times, especially in whatβs called the Outback.
21.07.2025 21:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Oldish chap wearing an Aran patterned jumper (sweater) called Aranmor, designed by Alice Starmore. The jumper has about half a dozen cable patterns. The colour is almost natural wool colour: creamy with a little tweed-like flecking. The yarn is thick (10-ply) and rustic; it felt like knotting waxed rope . The fabric is robust and quite rough.

Finished the Aranmor sweater, designed by Alice Starmore, today (19/7/25) in good time for the rest of the southern hemisphere winter.
I started in October and paused for our summer. If I take it on an aeroplane Iβll have to wear it, because itβs so heavy.
I thought that The Handmaids Tale was fiction.
