Seeing that first Hobbit movie was enough to permanently ice out what little enthusiasm I’ve ever had for that cinematic universe, though it *is* a little tempting and give the original trilogy another spin for its 25th anniversary this year.

Now that so think about it, I *think* I maybe ‘only’ seen those films 3 times - once apiece in theaters, then all together in a marathon when a friend got his hands on a VHS projector, and one last time when the extended DVD set (with those 200 hours of incredible making-of stuff) first came out.

Made the mistake of watching a clip from Lord of the Rings on YouTube, and I was surprised at how rough a LOT of those effects are - this shot from right after “Nah, go away” almost looks like a layering error where After Effects Gandalf is WAY too sharp & looks closer to the camera than the Balrog

Kinda surprised this was the only mention of that second season I’ve seen all year so far on social media, but considering it’s made by the Westworld people, I guess I shouldn’t be SO surprised.

The best part about reading a book about the making of The Blair Witch Project is that most of the film’s meager budget went into fixing up the derelict house at the end (and dirtying it back down again) so no one would die in it while filming (also, insurance in case anyone DID get hurt)
