I regret to inform everyone that my pedantic brain couldn’t let me live until I knew whether or not dodger blue and blue jays blue are the same blue. They are ONE PANTONE NUMBER APART.

adjusting to "we're just gonna let you have a nice time as long as you want" is pretty jarring there. I've run into a few cases of "we don't have tables. Actually.... if you can finish in 1.5 hours we could squeeze you in", and I just laugh and say that won't be a problem.

CHOTINER: This game you like to play, what's it called?

ME: Slay the Spire.

CHOTINER: And you play it on the computer?

ME: Yeah. Well, I also have it on my phone. I played another 300 hours.

CHOTINER: And these other games in your Steam library. Have you finished them?

ME: Now hold on a second,

See also the H2A program, which is the same fucked up shit but for farm workers, complete with the "you can exploit this program by getting cozy with the right government agency"

I firmly believe there's a class of people who look at the $100k and cheer on because they're ethnonationalists. And there's another class who cheer on because it's one step away from having H1B workers surrender their passports to their employers.

All of this. Especially the part where the H1B program has _always_ been a way to get workers you can fuck with more than people with the rights permanent residents have.

The good: new Tullycraft album!
The weird: some of the intros are all vaguely reminiscent of Rilo Kiley, not in an offputting way, but it's a weird trigger

I worked light manual farm labor (driving a hay raking tractor, loading hay trucks, not actual harvesting) for a few seasons. If you haven't done it, it's hard to comprehend how brutal the conditions are, and how much the piece-work nature of the jobs drives you to work yourself to death.

Other highlights: they guy seems to revel in the fact he was a fuckup in his 20s, but through the grace of god and his father's assets he was able to turn things around and run a farm that exploits immigrants.

Other highlights: FL's e-verify requirement doesn't apply to current employees, so he knows he's still employing undocumented people, and he sorta giggles at "they just need to keep their jobs". Which, fun times, because now a threat of firing, or a workplace injury is a threat of deportation.

Growing up in central California rice country, this story is not surprising, but none the less infuriating. The H-2A program, which this ghoul uses to get seasonal labor brings people into potentially lethal work conditions. Bonus: he's fighting legislation to mandate worker protections.

Atlassian's acquisition of the Browser Company makes perfect sense, when I consider that Atlassian is a holding company of many products I have no idea why I'd use

Love being so short that same. I have a vanity weight target that would put me at ~10% body fat, and still have me overweight. I currently have a resting heart rate low enough that the nurse asks me if it's always like that, great cardio capacity, and am squarely "obese"

In an attempt to (briefly) escape the onslaught of just fucking terrific news these days, I've been reading a more. Just finished a binge of joeabercrombie.com (Devils, First Law), shannonchakraborty.bsky.social (City of Brass) and a bunch of aptshadow.bsky.social stuff. Suggestions for next reads?

Every reputable expert I know considers mRNA vaccine technology to be one of the most revolutionary advances in medicine in our lifetimes. Its inventors won the Nobel Prize in 2023. Shutting it down now is pointless self-harm to humanity.

This is incredible. We had a pet slime mold in our yard growing up, that my stepfather was ferociously protective of, such wild organisms.
