another criticism I have about Cardcaptor Sakura, is how Syaoran lost ALL of his aura after S3.
He went from this imposing figure to "the boyfriend character" that rarely goes against Sakura.

And Corazon was someone that was raised the same as Doflamingo but decided to change. That change is a choice, that requires every single ounce of strength and will to not become a demon.
Blackbeard however, has the motivation but decided to focus on power and fear.

I think this is something cool, when giving a sad story to the villain doesn’t make their acts less evil. It just put them in a different frame, makes them more or less human the way they respond to trauma.
