๐จThere is a hidden issue in US immigration detention: the treatment of pregnant, postpartum, and nursing women. ๐จ
Despite ICE's own policies against detaining these individuals, reports of medical neglect, miscarriages, and nutritional deprivation have been documented.

With Big Tech, the Border Is Everywhere - Public Books
Given that the border is already mystified as a technology, new forms of computerized border technologies doubly fetishize the configurations of people, materials, force, and law that compose borderin...
๐ฃ๏ธ New from MiSC scholar Jenna Loyd for @publicbooks.bsky.social.
The article challenges the idea that "the border" is just a line on a map. Instead, it's a technologyโa tool that mixes law, territory, bureaucracy & policing to control human mobility.

This article is extremely problematic. Creates a caricatured portrait of Democrats and Republicans (and frankly, needed more fact checking on this point). Also premised on very simplistic assumptions re elections and voters. Finally, their poll data says nothing about voters' views of enforcement.

USAID didnโt fail. It fed 127,000 kidsโthen was erased mid-crisis. No speech. No tribute. Just silence. They didnโt end a program. They liquidated a covenant. The last American promise not built on conquestโbut care.

"Virginiaโs economy and prosperity depend on the strength and integrity of our higher education system. It is outrageous that officials in the Trump Department of Justice demanded the Commonwealthโs globally recognized university remove President Ryanโa strong leader who has served UVA honorably and moved the university forwardโover ridiculous โculture warโ traps. Decisions about UVAโs leadership belong solely to its Board of Visitors, in keeping with Virginiaโs well-established and respected system of higher education governance. This is a mistake that hurts Virginiaโs future."
My statement with @markwarner.bsky.social on reporting that President Jim Ryan was pressured to resign from the University of Virginia by the Trump Administration:

Cville: 3pm today, at the Rotunda. you donโt have to love Jim Ryan, I sure donโt, but Trumpโs DOJ forcing his replacement by Youngkin would be an absolute disaster for anyone affiliated with UVA, and honestly for our region at large.

the president does not actually have the power to fire a university president or a museum director, but if elites simply roll over under pressure, then effectively he does

it has never been clearer that undocumentedness is the outcome of processes of ILLEGALIZATION. it's not something a person does, it's something the state does to a person. The state is doing this to hundreds of thousands overnight, so it's especially shocking, but it's part of broader illegalization

DISASTROUS. This means they will send people to horrific situations with no due process โ in direct violation of promises the Solicitor General made to the Court in previous cases.
This greenlights sending people to be enslaved in Libya or tortured in any random foreign country.
