Bleakly embarrassing to see pundits praise the U.K. government for standing up to Israel. Tens of thousands of Palestinians have been murdered, children’s limbs ripped off. And government and media support let that happen. There should be no applause for finally noticing a genocide they helped arm.

A lot in today's health and disability #pathwaystowork Green Paper.

Might be helpful to see this in four areas:

1. Big savings (aka cuts) by removing PIP from some disabled people (those who never score 4+ on a single daily living descriptor). Number of losers unclear from today's materials.

Crucially, claimants should have greater choice and autonomy about how and where assessments and reassessments are carried out

18.03.2025 13:45 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

These changes in health could be an improvement or a decline in health and would lead to a reassessment to determine if levels of financial support are still appropriate.

18.03.2025 13:45 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Instead, there should be a movement towards a model of trust, in which benefits are awarded indefinitely until claimants report a change in their health

18.03.2025 13:45 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Constant reassessment causes avoidable distress and uncertainty. Through my PhD research, I argued that reassessments for all chronic illnesses should be no longer required

18.03.2025 13:45 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

after the weeks of speculation, it's disappointing to see what the government's welfare proposals amount to. The tightening of PIP criteria and increase in frequency of reassessments are particularly unhelpful

I know coverage of disability benefits can be very distressing. So, I’ve worked with colleagues to make a range of support visible on The Guardian’s site.

If you click on a relevant news story, you’ll see a β€œdrop box” of signposted mental health help as well as benefits advice.
