Funnily enough, people like Yunus were never considered anti-India before. His whole career was based on spreading micro-financing across SA, collaborating closely with Indian partners. Now he is explicitly asking Indian companies to come to Bangladesh to benefit from lower US tariffs.

Bizarre behaviour from India. Bangladeshi revolution shattered Hasina and her idea of the nation, yet Modi thinks it can get away with having backed her regime & won't even meet Yunus diplomatically. Seems like they think it's already a lost cause to get Bangladesh on their side.

What was the previous time the left did that? If you mean NAM & Bandung, that was always nationalism of the underdogs masquerading as internationalism for everybody.

I'd agree but there are more nuanced ways it works its way through the ecosystem. Eg: kids who watch twitch streamers don't use X, but the streamers react to posts on stream ALL the time! CCs still use it as part of their intellectual work, which filters down to their audience in an oblique way

Ofcourse, the current political economy that governs these structures can be blown open. But it will take a lot to bring major stakeholders like Reliance (which dominates Indian oil, tech, etc) to open itself up to American MNC competition. Or Punjabi farmers to accept major agri law changes, etc.

To get anywhere with this. Democracy can't explain why Starbucks failed a B2C operation, as well as why TN is failing at replicating iPhone production lines. If India had, I bet they'd have more leverage now than whatever tiny + they got from Global Civil society for being democratic in the 00s.

La Mettrie was a doctor and strict materialist who influenced the french enlightenment (L'homme machine is incredible stuff). And then ofc biopolitics, most theories clustered around Marxism, and feminist and queer philosophy have all investigated the biological.

Sharing my new article here: Read if interested in a forgotten literary feud that presages the insular nationalism defining Indian identity today, as well as other, more universalist paths not taken scroll.in/article/1074...
