Hi Joe!
do you have a contact email?
Starting my sample preparation for peat structure analysis (this was the test run some nice mosses)

24.05.2025 22:38 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0For the past two weeks, I've been working as a lab assistant for a PHD student looking at pyrolastic flow physics through experimental designs using a special flume.
If I get permission, I'd like to share some interesting things and photos π
I'd absolutely be down! Thanks for answering my question :)
21.04.2025 15:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I would also like to look at how using this data I could potentially model future instances and how they might affect conservation from a policy and legislation perspective but this entirely depends on scope.
21.04.2025 01:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Hopefully, Turnitin doesn't affect this.
But using a peat core from another student, I'm gonna count macro sub-fossils within the soils to analyze and figure out how the hydroclimate varied in the holocene.
From there, I can use other types of evidence and see how it works with the wider env.
Just finished with my my risk and ethics assessment for my undergraduate dissertation (fingers crossed no revisions π€).
Suffice to say I am really ready to start my topic (although I have to wait at least another month)
If all things go well it'll be interesting!
(I'll talk more about it below)
I don't have direct experience in environmental modeling, but I am really interested in environmental change and large-scale vegetation dynamics.
Would I still be okay with applying to this REP?
Lovely day to go creepy crawly hunting!

It's so interesting! Slowly been reading more about how useful for paleoenvironmental and archeological reconstruction they are.

I love environmental science being multidisciplinary
Currently doing an env change assignment on the decline of megafauna and ecological consequences.
But I get to be nosy at other disciplines, I got to read into this whale shark reproduction behavior paper :P

This also includes any undergraduate research grants!
Unfortunately, my university hasn't been able to assist in this (understandably), but I'm really eager to just get my fangs in something.

Sphagnum and disciplines around bogs and wetlands was my entry into this field and always gets me excited seeing it. (Espec in yorkshire!)
Hey! Sorry for the reply again but I was going through it again, do you have any reccomendations for where I can get my hands on some data to mess around with GPR analysis?
I'm in the uk so some of the procedures are different π
OH wow I didn't know it did chemistry contract too!
Thanks for the link I'll be making sure I delve into this :P
OH! So a type of UAV monitoring?
I'm still learning so if you don't mind me asking, how do you identify what features are based on (what I presume) is density variation?
What is that wave meant to show?

29.11.2024 13:10 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I think it's interesting how much palaeoenvironment can supplementally be aligned through old text, especially trying not to fall into rabbit holes π
However I do think I'd prefer quantitive methods more.

New flex! I got to volunteer with The Wildlife Trust.
W/ a combination of on-site surveying, historical maps and some literature. We re-examined the distributions of ancient forests within and around sheffield. For classification. I learnt a lot about history which I didn't expect.
