Still disconcerting how much impact one idiotβs whims can have.

I knew that my investments were doing *too* well so far this year. This knocks it back a bit...

10.10.2025 17:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0There is no way to scale up quickly enough to completely remove the need for unlicensed daycare. Iβm sure many in Quebec still use them because of lack of places.
Yet it somehow works in many European countries. Itβs an important social investment.
That's an example of what should be the norm. I can't believe that the government shuts down most unlicenced services and enforces the rules yet allows this to continue. You cannot run a restaurant or be in many positions of trust without certain minimum screening/qualifications, so why allow this?
10.10.2025 13:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Canβt wait to see Trumpβs message of congratulations to the newest Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
Iβm sure heβll be gracious and wonβt make it about him.

Unlicenced daycare has Inherent risks but many parents are unaware or have no choice. Another argument in favour of government subsidized daycare.
βUnlicensedβ is a mild term. The provider has no need for any qualifications whatsoever.
Iβm going to return my Nobel Prize if they give it to Trump.

09.10.2025 19:26 β π 26 π 9 π¬ 0 π 1BREAKING: Massive protests taking place right now in Chicago against Trump this evening.
Keep it up!
Always has his scales close at hand, I bet.
08.10.2025 23:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Hardly a trusted partner, I agree. PP was squawking that there wasnβt a deal signed on the spot but that is hardly up to Canada. We need to be seen to be doing something but Trump treats agreements as steps in a negotiation and not as the result.

Doug Ford refers to the possibility of cutting off energy exports but struggles to find a unit of measurement that actually measures, well, energy.
How many pounds of electricity did his house use last month?
I wouldn't dignify his past with any suggestion that he "retired". He was out-and-out ousted by his constituents in 2015. The only time he ever spent time in the riding was when he drove through it on the way to Ottawa.
A legend in his own mind, though.
Chris Alexander and Larry Linville as Frank Burns of M*A*S*H fame.
Dunno. Seems a bit odd, retired Mr. Alexander being invited to Parliamentβs Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security, given that the leader of the party to which he belongs is incapable of passing a security audit.
I always figured he was more of a Frank Burns than a Colonel Flag.
I heard some Catholic school board official on the radio going on about how there wouldnβt be any savings by amalgamating the two system, and claiming that there wouldnβt be enough capacity if it werenβt for the Catholic schools.
08.10.2025 19:29 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0His defence to any charges against him is, essentially, that heβs too stupid to know that what he was doing was wrong.
08.10.2025 19:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I would so dearly love to see the Catholic school board disbanded and a single system put into place.
Itβs not as hard as people think it is. All you need is a few minutes at Queenβs Park. The feds would sign off without question. No other consents needed.
Letβs have a plebiscite.
When interviewed for a documentary about the convoy, Bauder came across as a complete dolt. His lack of understanding of the world was astonishing. He also repeatedly cut off his wife whenever she tried to speak. Sheβs better off without him.
08.10.2025 14:44 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Given the rather lenient sentences handed down to Lich and Barber, James Bauer now looks particularly stupid for having fled to the US - claiming βpersecutionβ in Canada.
He will end up having a much worse outcome.
Itβs even free for homeowners, I believe.
08.10.2025 00:37 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0The new owner of a side by side is completely gutting and reno-ing it. Some of the subcontractors donβt seem to be the brightest bulbs (theyβre all from across the river and probably got the excavation job because they were cheap).
I didnβt see any locates done and I walk or bike by it every day.
The only reason he wasnβt disbarred was because he resigned from the Law Society first. He had over 25 complaints against him during 10 years of βpracticeβ.
Not a lot of respect for the law and an embarrassment to the profession.

But of course the Crown can appeal the sentence as well if they are not happy with it.
It's certainly at the high end and likely won't be the sentence. I'm ok with something in between that will be affirmed on appeal.
07.10.2025 14:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0No - they just told people nearby to close their windows and doors. There isn't much risk of an explosion if it is just leaking into the outside air - it's not accumulating anywhere.
Crews are all gone now, so I assume it has been capped.
