Back in the day when I still lived on the west coast I had a VW Beetle and that’s what we used to do but we were cool. And poor… so we drove Beetles.

I can’t imagine it’s easy, for sure. Then there’s the woman trying to re-enter the workforce when the kids are older and not having a leg up. To my mind, if you’ve managed a household you’re over-qualified for most jobs.

I’m Canadian. I don’t have kids but I see couples having to make this choice, even though we have all kinds of leave in Canada, and it’s crazy. Men predominantly don’t have to make this choice.

I’m glad. I’m an ardent admirer of police services (see my post today on my page) and other first responders. They have unbearable tasks sometimes. I don’t like it when any of them get slagged. I was quite shocked when the Ottawa Police Association made a political endorsement.

Yes, I wasn’t sure where the dividing line should be drawn. My personal opinion is that public service entities should be neutral but maybe that’s naive.

I’m not sure either. I’m just going by the unions for the OPS AND TPS from the last federal election.

Don’t most, if not all, police organizations in this country openly endorse Conservatives?

It’s kinda nuts. I used to work at U of T. I had to pack for all seasons because the classrooms were either hot as the sun or arctic cold. Part of the charm, I guess?

My brother is in the building trade out west. It depends on the structure being built but overall there has been an increase in hoops to jump through. These things are obviously not the only reason. There are many. I think companies felt they could just keep increasing prices and that’s not so now.

He sits there talking but it’s like he never goes outside. He’s honestly just making things up. The scary thing is people believe him.

Even with the additional standards I’m at a loss as to why a one bedroom in this new building, about 600sq ft, is $2400/month +++. Where’s all this affordable housing the govt is talking about?

I don’t think it’s to do with immigration either. Standards have changed and builders have to jump through more hoops, which is adding to the costs, so there’s that. Brand new rental apartments are ridiculous (two have gone up beside my building and I don’t know how anyone can afford them).

So not covert.

And sexism. Wasn’t too long ago when I would’ve been a DEI hire. In fact, the other day my company had to point out that 46% of new hires were women. Yes, we’re STILL talking about this.

If it’s covert why is it headline news?

It’s one I picked up from another member of my fountain pen group. It’s quite light turquoise blue. Very nice.
