Saturday catch-up: How to make sure the British Saturday Night Live isn't a flop http://dlvr.it/TKPPzQ

That's all four parts. I genuinely could have written more about this. The key thing is that producers need to trust talent, not gimmicks. SNL UK is a gimmick, but if it picks the right talent and presents them in the right way, then this could genuinely improve the chances of success in UK comedy.

Yep. That's why I cited Loadsamoney. That's exactly what SNL UK should be looking to replicate. It's not something like Domingo, which is reliant on having a big pop star guest host.

And I honestly think if someone can produce something that can go viral in the first episode or two, and have it available on the right platforms, you could just be surprised at the shows success, at least in the short-term.

I do think it can succeed, but it's going to be such a difficult needle to thread, and I fear that people involved will be forced to do it with the equivalent of welders' gloves because of the decisions of people above them.

If nearly every sketch in The Fast Show is at least five minutes!
I agree that the people who've commissioned this might not have thought deeply enough, and why I've written these four pieces, in the vague hope that someone involved may just read it and take my suggestions into consideration.

I agree. I address this very topic in the fourth and final article, hopefully up on Chortle tomorrow.

I think you'll find we're very much in agreement. Even with four articles, it's hard to fully explain what's needed (I didnt have the space to write much about WU but I agree with you. It's probably a hiding to nothing, but we need to hope that our pessimism is wrong, hence me writing all this!

3 down, 1 to go. It's not just improvisers that SNL UK needs, it's understanding that the cast will make the show a success. They need to look far and wide to find the right people, and improv is one of the places that has plenty of undiscovered talent and suits what's needed for this to succeed.

Thanks for the repost. I address this very issue in the fourth and final piece, which will hopefully be up tomorrow.

It felt redundant to suggest it in the article.

Two more articles to come!...

Thanks for the repost. I'll be mentioning the 80s SL/FNL in a later part as what they should take from that show to help the UK SNL succeed.
