It’s definitely an inspiration for one of our upcoming UI reworks but otherwise the visuals are 100% the vision of our lovely artist @dirn.bsky.social !

Gameplay wise the game is one part Beastieball, one part Darkest Dungeon and one part Paper Mario :)

Phasmopass will feature deep Character customization with strange items and ghosts to bond with, as well as a unique Reality-Show-inspired roguelite structure!

However, we're still working on perfecting our core loop beforehand, so we're looking forward to playtesting our combat a lot soon!

A concept for the player controller. A Blue Snowball Microphone is taped to the end of a long cardboard tube into which a nintendo switch joycon is inserted, which helps the player move with the joystick.

The final version of the input device. A Blue Snowball Microphone is taped to the end of a long cardboard tube, now wrapped in gold tape. At the bottom into, a nintendo switch joycon is inserted, which helps the player move with the joystick.

The second twist?

Reefsong was developed as university project where we had to make a unique input device!

We built the a staff to resemble the mermaids weapon out of a cardboard tube, a Blue Snowball and a Joycon for movement (we tried motion controls first but they were too buggy🥲)

The player mermaid sinking a ship by growing corals out of it, thus fully purifiying it.

The core loop is very simple;

1) Find polluting ships dropped by the mothership!
2) Capsize them with powerful waves!
3) Purify them into a reef that local wildlife can use as a habitat!

The twist?

You have to SING to do so. High notes purify your surroundings and low notes create waves!
