I’m a big fan of Jonathan Plucker’s work on advanced learning. Just found his excellent Substack—highly recommend. Here's a snippet. I agree: too many advanced math students aren’t getting in-class acceleration. We need advanced programming for them. jonathanplucker.substack.com/p/spring-has...

I’ve switched my focus from decoding to encoding interventions & have seen remarkable improvements in both his reading AND spelling abilities!

1️⃣ Myth: Timed tests cause math anxiety
2️⃣ Myth: Procedural fluency works against conceptual understanding

Direct & explicit instruction is highly effective for #multilingual learners- it provides clarity, structure and focused language input.
However, consider scaffolding, cultural references & balancing interaction to ensure it's truly impactful.

If the barrier is gaps in basic alphabetic code knowledge, target this.
If the barrier is blending words, target this.
If decoding is fine but the barrier is dysfluency, target this.
Identifying and addressing individual needs will *always outperform general strategies on the basis of labels.

The reality is that dyslexia simply means relatively extreme difficulties with learning to recognise and/or spell words.
The remediation of these difficulties should work in exact the same way for those with and without a diagnosis: identify the barriers to reading development and address them.
