I need people to read the packaging and then tell me why they’re calling it sherbert

Yes! In my former book club, people shared their reading in sff, romance, fantasy, children’s & middle grade literature, memoirs, history, graphic novels, magazine articles, etc.

The only theme I had for mine was for the food. And 95% of the meetings were at my house so no one had to stress about it (except me πŸ˜‚) and there were about 20 people on the roster when 8-10 would make a good group, so no one felt pressured to come. It died with the pandemic.

For my book club everyone just brought/talked about whatever book they had read recently, it was great. And led to lots of convos/book swapping.

I like the functionality of the feeds here but booksky very much leans toward fantasy/romance/sff and they’re not in my wheelhouse. And I did two bluesky book clubs that were lively but the format of reading 10 or pages a day didn’t work for me. I may have to revive my old in-person book club.

I just want to talk about books all the time and this is not currently the place for it. But the book places (goodreads, storygraph etc) are not for me. Any recommendations?

Maybe try Mark’s (despite the name it has men’s and women’s clothing). They have their own brand and carry other brands.

Earlier today we were talking to the neighbours about how we haven’t seen any deer this summer. They must have overheard us

You can! Just figure out what works for you (gym or at home? time of day? goals?), do it three times a week, and track your progress (that last bit is a huge motivator for me).

We can lose muscle, it’s true. But what muscle we already have will help with being able to get in and out of bed, the shower, not falling, etc. And when we can get back to it, the muscle will return quickly. Muscle memory is real! Read @caseyjohnston.bsky.social

Opinion | I gained 20 pounds of muscle. Here’s what I learned. Three years and 20 pounds of muscle later, I’ve learned that everything β€” and nothing β€” changes.

The British media outlet ITV also went on a Jordanian airdrop and simply ignored the Israeli government’s illiberal demands:

It’s dangerous to humans and animals, AND they’re doing it for stupid reasons, AND it promotes forest fires. A Ford government trifecta of cruel incompetence.

You think the spraying won’t affect you because it’s far away but it will because we’re all connected. Noticeably, on this smoky weekend.

Yeah, agree. The fairytale style on top of the feminist retelling of the French revolution was all a bit much. I liked the first half and then it kinda fizzled for me.

Books I read in July, including a couple Jane Austen novels I don’t think I’ve read before. I had no idea Northanger Abbey is so funny, loved it.

What World War II taught us about how to help starving people today The modern study of starvation was sparked by the liberation of concentration camp survivors. U.S. and British soldiers rushed to feed them β€” and yet they sometimes perished.

Hunger can be alleviated with food. It's a pretty simple process

Starvation and malnutrition, on the other hand, often require medical care and specialized food

It is now safe to admit that the Palestinians are starving. They can send in boatloads of food and people will still die
