This is confusing. If he arrived at the CTA gates, he'd pass flight connections signs, and then be in the baggage area and straight out into the arrivals area without passing immigration. I'd guess the immigration officer wasn't that, or wasn't working, and he just said 'How do I get to terminal 5?'

That’s what a marginal rate is. You get paid an additional £1, you get 38p, HMRC gets 62p. (that’s without and child related benefits)

Didn’t say it was average. Marginal rates matter - if your bonus/commission/payrise is taxed at 62.5% then it changes the incentives.

Nice analysis, and so far as i could work out the marginal rate for a british worker at £100k is the highest marginal rate anywhere in the world (even before you bring children into it). UK is certainly high tax for some.
