Zohran Mamdani's campaign in NYC has been the most hopeful political act I've seen in many years. Maybe since Jack Layton's campaign in 2011.

I cannot emphasize enough how much Zohran Mamdani's campaign was very much about a platform focused on accountability, but also about having fun, fostering genuine connections with its citizens, and reminding people why they moved to New York City and should still want to live there

This framing is journalistic malpractice. Reinvesting your own capital into a company that you own is not "philanthropy."

It has been a pleasure being one of the judges of the CBC poetry contest this year. Congratulations to the 23 writers on the long list announced this morning. The short list will be announced on November 13, and the winner on November 19.

There is nothing worse for poetry than a poet who has no enthusiasm for the art form. No love. No humility. Just that snide, above-it-all derision for all the work they deem unworthy. It's so tired and dim and cynical and barren. It sucks the blood out of poetry like a tick.

Dick Cheney was a monster. He did not have one redeeming human quality. He is dead. He lived too long. One day someone will speak his name for the last time. May that day come soon.
