I never had an M17, but when I had an M9 on my last Iraq tour, shoulder holster was the way. Especially for navigating the port-a-johns without having to take a leg or hip holster off.

I have at least tried to make things dual-use whenever possible - black water resistant shoes that are business casual enough and meet close toe safety requirements for part of my trip. Black scarf thing that doubles as a light blanket for my flight. Insulated tights for wear under skirts or pants.

Yeah, the shoes alone bust the carry on, given I also have to carry a laptop and other bulky stuff. I'm not acclimated to the cold anymore, ya girl needs snivel gear.

Hand is doing much better today - I'd say it's at about 90% functionality.
