Mary Brown Wyness was born in 1912, Lumphanan, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. She was the daughter of Robert Harry and Annie Merchant Wyness. Mary joined the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF). Rank Aircraftwoman 2nd Class. #WW2 #WAAF

3. Matthew joined the Royal Munster Fusiliers 7th Battalion. Rank Private. Service No. 2179. Matthew was killed in action on 16th August 1915, Gallipoli, aged 33. Cemetery Helles Memorial, Turkey. #WW1 #gallipoli

2. In 1911 Matthew’s occupation was a Coal Miner (Trammer) aged 29 and he lived with his wife and children on 11 Blucher Street. Barnsley, Yorkshire. #ww1 #gallipoli

Matthew Weldrick was born in 1881, Maplewell, Barnsley, Yorkshire. He was the son of Joseph Weldrick and Elizabeth Rennison. He married Sarah Ann Hinchcliffe on 24th December 1905, Barnsley, Yorkshire. They had three daughters and one son. #WW1

3. On 20th May 1918 she died after a long and painful illness (tuberculosis) contracted in France while nursing. Shepperdine, Oldbury on Severn. United Kingdom aged 28. She is buried at Oldbury-on-Severn, St. Arilda’s Churchyard, Gloucestershire. #WW1 #VADnurses

2. Phoebe joined the Voluntary Aid Detachment in 1915 aged 25. In 1915 she joined 4th Southern General Hospital, Plymouth. In 1917 she joined the Nurse V.A.D in France. #WW1 #VADnurses

Phoebe Elizabeth Meadows was born in 1889, Oldbury- on- Severn, Gloucestershire. She was the daughter of Charles Meadow and Phoebe Elizabeth Sansum. #WW1 #VADnurses

4. Sister Mary Agnes Doherty died on 5th September 1916 of dysentery aged 28. She is buried at Salonika Military Cemetery, Greece. She gave her life for her country. #Qaimns #WW1

3. After a short leave of absence at home she was transferred to the 29th General Hospital at Salonika. It was some time ago she contracted malaria but, she recovered enough to be able to resume her duty, only to come down with dysentery. #WW1 #QAIMNS

2. Regiment: Women’s Service. Rank Sister. She volunteered for active service at the outbreak of hostilities. Firstly, she was attached to a general hospital in France. She was awarded the Royal Red Cross for devotion to duty. #WW1 #QAIMNS

1. Nurses who served in the Queen's Alexandria Imperial Military Nursing Service (QAIMNS):
Mary Agnes Doherty was born in 1888, Londonderry, Northern Ireland. She was the daughter of Phillip Doherty and Catherine Eanor. Mary joined the Queen Alexandria’s Imperial Military Nursing Service. #WW1

3. On 31st May 1917 Private Charles Exley was killed instantaneously by an Aerial Dart. Charles was part of the Arras Offensive aged 25. He is buried at Philosophe British Cemetery, Mazingarbe, France. #WW1 #yorkshireminers #barnsleycolliery

2. In 1911 Charles aged 19 worked as a Colliery Labourer Above Ground, Barnsley Colliery. He lived with his family at 10 Station Road, Wombwell, Yorkshire.
Charles joined the York and Lancaster Regiment 2nd Battalion. Rank Private. Service No. 13/1404. #WW1

1. Men who were miners and sent to the battlefield WW1:
Charles Exley was born in 1892, Darfield, Yorkshire. He was the son of Charles Exley and Jane Elizabeth Priestley. #WW1

2. Jeannie joined the Queen Mary’s Army Auxiliary Corps (QMAAC). Service No. 46868. Rank Worker.
Jeannie died of pneumonia on 29th October 1918, Perth and Kinross, Scotland aged 20. She is buried at Dalbeattie Cemetery. #WW1 #QMAAC #womenatwar

1. Remembering the Women Casualties of War:
Jeannie Turnball Wright was born in 1899, Galashiels, Roxburghshire, Scotland. She was the daughter of Andrew Wright and Wilhelmina Jane Currie. #womenatwar #QMAAC #WW1

6. Years later he was pardoned.
Private William Hunter is buried at Maroc British Cemetery. #WW1 #shotatdawn

5. t was said because of his young age as he was only 17 in the September that the sentence be commuted to 5 years Penal Servitude. However, on the 21st February 1916 aged 18 Private William Hunter was shot as a deserter. #WW1 #shotatdawn

4. 3rd charge while in prison at Mazingarbe on 5th January 1916 he escaped from the guard room awaiting Field Court Martial.
After witnesses had given evidence he was found guilty. #WW1 #shotatdawn

3. 1st charge was for desertion in the field on 23rd September 1915 until he was apprehended in Burbure, 30th November 1915 avoiding active operations against the enemy.
2nd charge while in prison at Lillers he escaped from the detention room on 1st December 1915. #WW1 #shotatdawn
