A Paris β€œSchool Street” where cars are removed and people space/tree planting are added

According to the City of Paris, in the last 10 years 150K trees have been planted & 45ha of parks created in the already hot city, all intended to not only improve quality-of-life today, but also help the city adapt to & manage summer heatwaves of 50℃ (122F) by 2050.

Just the start.

Common sense.

Oh no, here we go again. Are we heading for another (rushed) agreement to solidify our role as the world’s quarry?

We should export processed minerals, not raw! #ValueAddHere. 1/2 #auspol

This won’t end well. As soon as there’s government money on offer, private corporations come out to dip their snouts in the trough. We’ve seen it in aged care, childcare, disability providers, employment services, etc, but continue to fail to learn the lessons from these examples.

Sometimes I think about how from 1935-1975ish, Bell Labs produced an insane amount of revolutionary science and technology, including 11 Nobel Prizes, the transistor, UNIX, C, the laser, the solar cell, information theory, etc. The secret? Provide scientists with ample, steady, no-strings funding.

When a president sends troops into American cities to β€œrestore order,” what he’s really doing is testing obedience. Portland and Chicago aren’t war zones…they’re warning shots. Authoritarians don’t announce takeovers. They practice them. One city at a time. However, each practice destroys families.

I’m sorry, but I just don’t get the attraction of flat-faced cats (or dogs). It doesn’t look attractive to me, & surely it’s not good for the animals’ breathing?? Humans have a lot to answer for in our selective breeding of β€œcute” deleterious traits in our pets.

Hegseth orders rare, urgent meeting of hundreds of generals, admirals The Pentagon has summoned military officials from around the world for a gathering in Virginia. Top generals and their staffs don’t know the reason for the meeting.

In 1935 German leadership called a surprise meeting and informed their previous oath to uphold the Weimar constitution was now void and they instead must swear a personal oath to the FΓΌhrer. Many claimed they didn’t like the order, but they did it anyway.

Journalists need to be very very careful reporting on the paracetamol story. This is no time for straw man reporting or headlining Trump's statement without commentary, because all most people will see is the headline and take it as gospel. 1/
