My 4th grade teacher *made me* read it. I was only interested in non fiction books at the time. It is no exaggeration to say that this fascinating book opened up worlds to me and deeply influenced the trajectory of my life (I am a Bible teacher and the Bible demands a healthy imagination).

You are certainly right. I suspect some things in this book would make me more than uncomfortable if I read it today.
