I think the lines could work if there was more weight in the figures and flexibility in the features or the gestures/body. It also feels less real the more realistic you make the figures/movements (without adding smears or a squash and stretch).

I think it's the eyes. Idk, something about them makes the faces on a whole feel a bit lacking in energy. It might just be their choices in the trailer, but facial expression on a whole are very minimal

AGREED. Just... idk guys if you're going to cast actors in a different range... you need to adjust the range of the songs so they can give their best performances.

With Crowe I continue to believe the limitations made for good characterization though (even unintentionally).

I have so many beefs with that movie -- they should not have been singing live. It made every shot claustrophobic instead of giving me a MOVIE, if I wanted live singing I'd watch better broadway performances! -- but Hugh Jackman singing a song I already don't like badly is at the TOP of the list

Is traffic actually that bad? I've only seen a couple of hours a day when it gets really congested in a couple of places (rush hours), but otherwise the repetition of traffic being a HUGE issue throughout the city feels wild to me. If they wanted to hire Jackman, they should have adjusted the range. Because it's not IN his natural range it feels like he relies on mimicking another performance instead of doing his own.
