Thinking I might write an article for Love in the Time of Chasmosaurs (follow us at @chasmosaurs.bsky.social) on the prehistoric species of Zoo Tycoon: Dinosaur Digs! I did a big Twitter thread years ago and could probably go in greater depth than I did at the time. I absolutely adore this game!

The @chasmosaurs.bsky.social podcast is always a great listen simply because of the dynamic between its three hosts, but this one is especially fun! Highly recommended for anyone who likes to listen to reviews by people who actually know about the subject matter.

A fair, solid review of #WWD2025. It faithfully points out the show's drawbacks but doesn't tear it apart because of that, and it fully recognises the good/great stuff that often gets overlooked amidst the strife. I really advise you to have a listen even if you disagree with most of the views!

A two-page spread titled "Pretty Jaw" from an illustrated dinosaur book, showing the small theropod Compsognathus. It's depicted with scaly, pebbly skin, streaks of green and yellow above countershaded with cream on its belly and limbs. Its stance is slightly crouched, and it's twisting its neck around to peer towards the viewer with one glaring orange eye.

TIL they had a third finger!

the image in my mind of Compsognathus is still largely this bit of nostalgia

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Jan SovΓ‘k, one of my favourite palaeoartists. His work in the 90s for The Great Dinosaurs, by Ε pinar and Currie, is among my most formative and cherished dinosaur art. His output has been straggering in both quality and quantity. We lost a legend.

The echinoid fossil in this 400,000 year old handaxe from Swanscombe, Kent, had quite a journey.
Living over 65 million years ago it survived Cretaceous seas, fossilisation, Ice Age rivers, Neanderthal culture, more rivers, & quarrying to enter our scientific record.

More or less definitive color tests for Europatitan, the peak of how some sauropods came to have a bauplan that borders on the absurd, some cervical vertebrae of this animal were well over a meter long

Furthermore, it was ridiculously large, perhaps more than 25 m long, a true titan
