It's been 53 days since I reported this. I've gotten communication as to why it's taking so long, but no explanation as to why it's okay to leave this block of Jackson and King dark so long. Incl. a bus stop that serves 4 lines. No temp lights. Nothing.
This is CPTED, @mayorofseattle.bsky.social?

Be honest @transalt.org @ridersalliance.org, did you get this idea from the inspired @fixthel8.bsky.social Race the L8 campaign in Seattle?

Would love to see this energy from @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social as Harrell is cutting ribbons on all the (oftentimes very delayed) street projects later this summer. Like, we’re glad the Beacon Ave project is finished but did it really need to be delayed a year so SDOT could redo a parking study?

Southern exposure. Some of the units have walls retrofitted for window units, but I think those were unsanctioned.

Yeah, I have casement windows. There are little screens you can get to cover the opening with a portable, but felt wrong. Can't do window unit. Ceilings too low for fans.

@wilsonforseattle.bsky.social have you seen the crowds at summer Pioneer Square art walks? Great place to canvas! Belltown Blast and Othello Park Int'l Festival this weekend.

β€œIn a Good Economy Homelessness Goes Up”: Inflation and the Housing Question Shelter is one of the largest items in a person’s budget, and among the most rigid. How can the state ensure that renters don’t get crushed as workers during a recession, and then crushed again with…

I'll never forget former Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti's similarly candid observation from 2020:

"In a good economy, homelessness goes up."

In other words, the system is working exactly as intended.

Did you know some council members want to slash development to protect homeowners, force redesigns if new housing threatens a tree of ANY size, and give the city HOA-like authority to dictate the type of siding on some houses? I read the comp plan amendments so you don't have to.

Next year, Sound Transit will be updating its System Plan, its Long Range Plan, and its Long Range Financial Plan, all within the span of a few months.

What I am saying is that it would be a good time for someone like Katie Wilson to join the Sound Transit board, from my perspective.

It was sooooo bumpy. 3rd & Main is the termination point for a bunch of bus routes and a stop for many additional ones. It was bone-rattling. Also crowded, so the wider sidewalk helps.

Had they threatened to (or otherwise voiced opposition)? Or do you just mean in contrast to so many other businesses when transit (or really any) improvements are planned?

I think it's super important to be clear on what one's values are and to have enough conviction to advocate for those values. And I think it's important to have humility as to the question of how those values are best served. A sense of certainty is often rewarded, but that doesn't mean it's good.

As Philadelphia’s SEPTA system stares down severe cuts with no state rescue in sight, the Philadelphia Bar Association is shining a light on an overlooked benefit of public transit nationwide: fostering justice for all.

Awful, hope they heal quickly and fully.

SDOT has a design to narrow the number of lanes someone walking would have to cross at Rainier Ave and Graham St, but it has been sitting on a shelf because it may delay drivers by 23.5 seconds during peak commute hours. drive.google.com/file/d/1YzeL...

Yeah, I mean we know how the mayor works and one imagines Dow had/has a legacy project in mind for courthouse area. There's plenty to make me angry and I have all sorts of feelings about this, but I don't know the right plan. Wish we could be confident the ppl we pay to decide it are reliable.

I ❀️ urbanism and value the urbanism community. But it's very white and very male (as am I) and very comfortable with expressing certainty (TBF so are NIMBYs and the car-brained). It takes active effort, but I try not to let myself be certain.

I feel uncertain as to the right CID light rail plan.
