Same. It actually reminds me of a certain vernacular in Vietnam

That was to say that the people within SDOT who would have most liked to see this fixed immediately likely aren't in a position to command the resources (crews and trucks) needed. 72hr pothole pledge can't help. And the levy was more about capital improvements than operations.

A lot of folks at SDOT who care and want better but don't have the resources they need. That said, if a car lane was obstructed like this, it would absolutely be fixed by now.

It's also so much better than the text-only NTOR signs, which no one seems to notice

Look inside Tacoma’s ICE detention center, where you could be kept for days or years Conditions inside Tacoma's Northwest ICE Processing Center have been a mystery for many. In new interviews, people formerly held there reveal what life is like.

A necessary read. This is a cruel, broken, and inhumane system we have created. It’s also enormously wasteful.

Note the fresh coat of paint. Under the Harrell regime, even the rubble of burned down buildings must be free from graffiti (Asian Plaza site, Little Saigon).

Graffitilessness is next to godliness.

Today is World Homeless Day, and after years reporting on this crisis, I'll just say: homelessness is neither inevitable nor intractable. It's the result of choicesβ€”political, economic, moralβ€”that can be unmade.

And this: how we treat the unhoused is a bellwether for the violence we will tolerate.

Seattle council hasn't consistently put the most important issues on the top of its legislative agenda (downtown ad kiosks), so why haven't we banned gas leafblowers yet? I'd rather eliminate homelessness, but while we dither...

We can end homelessness, and therefore we should World Homeless Day reminds us that it is possible to end homelessness.

Five years ago, for the 10th World Homelessness Day, I wrote this brief call to action. Five years gone and little progress. But I stand by each word:

Only a small percentage of Seattle residents (around 5-10%) typically use them.

So encourage your Seattle friends and family and neighbors to use theirs too!

It’s a great way to increase awareness and participation in the program and our democracy.

@seattledot.bsky.social I wanted to share these photos with you of the Stay Healthy St at 13th and Columbia (see also Google Street View at 12th and Columbia). Crosswalks are badly faded, daylighting nonexistent or not working, and the orange barrels kind of hidden. Something isn't working here!

Car in a closed school street.

This morning, I sat on the McClure β€œschool street” and counted cars violating the closure during the 30 minutes before the first bell. There were 16, about one every two minutes.

It’s remarkable to see a residential street just turned over to people using granite blocks, planters, posts and paint.

Reminds me a bit of how Durkan in 2020 would tell crowds she understood they were upset about George Floyd, while failing to acknowledge local police violence. Tell Seattle voters that their choices in the mayoral election are just about who's president.

Bruce Harrell likes to bluster about standing up to Trump

But behind the scenes, SPD is collaborating with ICE, and Harrell’s trying to hide it until after the election

ICE wants data? No prob, that will take 4 days

Journalist question about data sent to ICE? Sorry, best we can do is 4 months

Residents along Rainier Avenue want changes on dangerous street Activists rallied Wednesday night along what they call Seattle's most dangerous street. Rainier Avenue South averages one car crash a day, about 1,200 in the last three years.

10 years since @mayorofseattle.bsky.social said it was time to make Rainier Ave safe: www.kiro7.com/news/residen...

Something like 4400 crashes on Rainier since then.
