Someone asked why X⁰=1 and while it's definitional, it's really easy to understand when we use base 10 as an example.

In BASE 2, the same holds true. The ONES column counts from 0 to 1 and rolls over into the next power.

2⁰ would be the ONES column.
(Then the TWOS, the FOURS, the EIGHTS, etc.)

You are almost correct!

It's pretty easy to see when we talk about BASE 10 and the 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘮𝘯𝘢𝘳 math you're used to.

10² | 10¹ | 10⁰ | 10⁻¹ | ->
100 | 10 | 1's | tenths ->

So in BASE 10, the columns you're used to count from 0 to 9 and then roll over.

The X⁰ column is the ONES column.
