I need to make it a habit to post here every day. Itโ€™s the only way Iโ€™m going to actually become comfortable with this app.

Has anyone read The Covenant of Water? Iโ€™m considering picking it up next but itโ€™s quite the commitment and I hope itโ€™s not a sad book because Iโ€™m still recovering from A Tale for the Time Being.

Iโ€™m obsessed with making my slides look pretty. I literally cannot think of the content unless the slide is aesthetically pleasing to my eyes ๐Ÿ˜ญ

A Mystery Species Was Discovered in Trafficked Pangolin Scales Researchers believed there were eight species of the strange mammals. But a ninth was identified genetically, although no one knew it was a separate species in the wild.

Researchers studying scales from poached pangolins discovered a brand new species hiding in plain sight ๐Ÿ” new from me for the NYT www.nytimes.com/2023/09/25/s...

Who Gets to Eat Well After the Climate Crisis? C Pam Zhangโ€™s dystopian "Land of Milk and Honey" imagines how fine dining might persist after food systems collapse.

C Pam Zhang's Land of Milk and Honey, out today, has the most gorgeous descriptions of food and raises great questions about the nature of hunger, pleasure, and fine dining. i interviewed her about it: www.eater.com/23889575/c-p...

This is what I fear. That people will assume that Iโ€™m some kind of genius who is good at everything and that is absolutely not the case! Iโ€™m smart in a VERY specific way lol

That being said, I also donโ€™t know what the right response to that is. Iโ€™ve just been smiling and saying โ€œthatโ€™s kind of you to sayโ€. Guess thatโ€™s okay enough a thing to say.

Iโ€™ve been actively trying to not respond with โ€œhaha no not reallyโ€ when someone says that I must be smart because I did a PhD. It is incredibly hard but I gotta stop putting myself down like that.

I know this is a privileged position to be in and I shouldnโ€™t complain but managing end-of-PhD admin while navigating a new postdoc project is a lot and my brain feels like a big blob of jello

Iโ€™m not a podcast person either and thatโ€™s part of why it took so long to try audiobooks. Audiobooks (when well narrated) make me feel like Iโ€™m actually reading the text myself!!

16.09.2023 16:55 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

But I also wonder if Iโ€™ll ever be able to actually read again. With all the reading Iโ€™ve to do for work and the constant digital distractions, perhaps not. But I donโ€™t mind. Audiobooks seem to be a very good alternative.
