This is in a similar vein to the time that my mother was watching The Life And Loves of a She Devil, and found herself thinking what an amazing job the team had done making Julie T Wallace up to look like Patricia Hodge, before realising that no, at a particular point they had switched actors.

Quick ‘Is it free speech?’ test:
Does it mean you get everyone’s views on an equal basis?
Or do only bigots, bullies and those with Death Star-like media platforms get opinions, while any pleb with the unspeakable temerity to answer back gets blasted to atoms for daring to exist?

We have built a society in which people of different skin tones, religious backgrounds & cultures get along, share power, work alongside each other, procreate with each other, recognise the each other’s humanity and democratic rights. It is a STUNNING ACHIEVEMENT OF WORLD HISTORIC PROPORTIONS.

I tried the same thing for BlueSky's age verification partner. That system told me that my face
'didn't look like a face'. Rude, and unhelpful. So yes, I remain unconvinced. And unverifiable by either GOV.UK or BlueSky.

I recently tried to verify my identity on the GOV.UK site for Companies House. Everything was going swimmingly until I tried to match my passport photo to my face. At which point, it tried three times, failed, and dumped me out of the process with no option to retry.

There are many, many reasons to dislike the UK Government's pushing of its 'not technically compulsory but mandatory for a lot of things including, you know, getting a job' Digital ID. But I have a particular personal one: digital verification systems apparently don't like my face.

Im honoured to know Chris and her incredible work for the Lib Dems nationally and in Manchester - "exceptional woman" is right, and she deserves huge praise and the Patsy Calton Prize. Anyone seeking to tear her down should be ashamed.

Worth a read by Ben Williams, on why Liberals should continue to argue against digital ID cards in the UK. Ben is the sort of Liberal who can properly articulate both the principled and practical issues at play here - we should all take note.
