Back in work today for a super short week & had to kick my morning off with this, & now a repeat..because yes, yes I was singing this to the cake in the hope it would make it less bumpy. Canβt say it worked too well but given my singing is understandable π

Well finished the first (pre) Halloween cake. We shall not discuss the buttercream frosting which was so hard to do (but it was a first attempt!!) β¦but just gave it away & they loved the little ghosties and pumpkins!! Itβs carrot cake with walnut & fondant ghosts/pumpkins π»π

I see life as a shared gift, received from others and passed on to others, living and dying as one process, in which lies both our suffering and our reward. Without mortality to purchase it, how can we have the consciousness of eternity? I think the price is worth paying.
28.10.2025 11:30 β π 17 π 5 π¬ 0 π 0My struggle has been too much coming off when I try and smooth it so you still see cake round the edges, get it almost there then cake appears again. So Iβve put it in to chill and will have one more go tonight before leaving it!! Thank you π
27.10.2025 22:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0On leave and in my infinite wisdom decided to start, (emphasis on start), to learn full buttercream cake covering today. Fucking hell it is not a natural skill for me!
This is just the practice cake too (for a friend), working on the actual cake Iβve got planned for Friday tomorrow π΅βπ«π΅βπ«

26.10.2025 15:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Top of Pen Pych, looking out over a valley with the towns/villages. Dark cloudy sky and long pale as well as short grass
Halfway up Pen Pych with a view across the landscape, lots of rock and moss, dark clouds in the sky
Bright yellow flowers - common ragwort
A river on the walk up Pen Pych mountain, mossy stones and trees in the autumn stage of turning orange and yellow, green ferns and rapid flowing water
Some more pics, love this route, & always think of the local legend when I come here - name of the mountain means Heads of the five bulls - the story goes that a local tribe refused to hand over their prized bulls to the Romans who demanded them, opting instead to decapitate the bulls & mount
26.10.2025 15:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Ahh little bimble up Pen Pych today, which is a tabletop mountain (apparently, one of only two in Europe) in the valleys, π΄σ §σ ’σ ·σ ¬σ ³σ Ώ
has a fantastic little waterfall about two thirds of the way up, love this place
For the rolls I mushed up apricot & added to melted salted butter & spread like you would cinnamon rolls. For the last two though I ran out of apricot & wanted to get them in to bake so only finely chopped & sprinkled a bit of apricot/butter - not a good idea as these are the chunks that caught!

25.10.2025 17:11 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My photo collage shows five cylindrical Minoan cups each with a single handle and slightly flaring rim. Each cup is decorated with a different geometric polychrome motif: Top left: swirling white vine-like lines and round reddish-orange medallions framed by white circles on a black background. Top right : large white spiral on front of cup with a reddish-orange oval shape with stylised white petals beside it, on a black background. Middle left: diagonal zig-zag stripes in alternating black and white above and below a band around the middle of the cup Bottom left: swirling white lines and reddish-orange and white geometric band on a black background. Bottom right: diagonal white stripes below a row of red dots outlined with white circles on a black background. This type of ornamental Minoan pottery is known as Kamares Ware, named after the Kamares Cave on Mount Ida on the Greek island of Crete where this kind of pottery was first discovered. Kamares Ware vessels were luxury items produced by palace workshops at Phaistos and Knossos on Crete. These five cups were excavated at Phaistos and are dated 1800-1700 BC.
Marvellous Minoan cups made by Bronze Age potters about 3,800 years ago!
