Well I guess it depends on what you seek in fiction. I don't care how detailed the world is, I prefer soft worldbuilding + moving stories. Other people enjoy world bible/epic stuff.

Finite state automata can have or not have emergent properties. Game of life is finite, but look at the interesting complexity it creates with those simple rules.

Discord sometimes feels meaningful. Twitter/BS feels like somebody pointedly talking totally-not-about-you at the next table in a cafe.

I don't think nihilism is the answer, I think it's just more complicated than "do not use _" declarations, however well meaning.
