I still think he was an asshole but man, I also think about this quote a lot, and for very different reasons than just 5 years ago.

"In the middle of the Pacific Ocean" — do they even know where Alcatraz is?

Yes... and it takes two to tango, so we can also "thank" the Bartell family for selling it to what was already a failing company at the time (while acknowledging that PBMs have made it difficult for independent drugstores to be successful).

It's got to be France winning the World Cup at home in 1998. "Après avoir vu ça on peut mourir tranquille" / "After seeing this we can die in peace." youtu.be/Jqm20HVyxDA?...

Thank goodness all these elections (Germany, Canada, Australia) happened *after* the inauguration. Had the order been reversed, most of the West would have right/far-right governments by now 😬

A few years ago I attended a meet-and-greet with our French elected representative at La Parisienne, which I feel is quite the endorsement ☺️

A top contender in my list is Temple Pastries. Was just there last week and OMG their chocolate croissant is incredible.

And the fact that ChatGPT relies on Bing for web search doesn't really change the equation. Nobody would argue that DuckDuckGo is not a search engine, and yet they also rely on Bing.

This conversation reminds me of the dress meme. If you interpret ChatGPT as the underlying LLM, then of course it's not a search engine. If you read it as the product that OpenAI sells you for $20 a month, then yes it includes a search engine (and other capabilities).

Governor Ferguson is working for us, the people of Washington State. If like me you've been very disappointed in his first 100 days, especially his lack of support for progressive taxation, let him know!

Trump wants to cut taxes for wealthy people and corporations? We tax them back dollar for dollar.

Trump wants to cut Medicaid? We pass universal healthcare.

Trump wants to cut Head Start? We pass universal pre-K.

The most frustrating part is that it is really the right time to take a big swing here in Washington, after the November initiatives were massively rejected, with DOGE being so impopular, with so many people willing to fight back locally against federal cuts.

Gov. Ferguson's approval rating rises sharply among WA Republicans Gov. Bob Ferguson is less popular among Democrats compared to when he first took office, a new poll finds. His positive rating has risen among Republicans.

Especially at a time his approval rating is in free fall! From +20 after the election to +5 this month. And that's even before people see prices go up and essential services being cut. At this pace he'll be in the red by the end of the year. www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...

It *will* be like this all the time. The pilot will be inevitably a success, and it's on us to make sure we don't let off the hook anyone pushing back on permanent pedestrianization.

Here's what I sent to our elected officials to voice my disappointment in seeing the legislature prioritize wealthy people and corporations over the children of our state, especially those from low-income working families.

And yes, early education includes kids 0-3. At my daughter's childcare center, the highest demand is for this age group. There are less options and less local funding than preschool/pre-K, making it hard to find open spots even if you can afford the tuition, almost impossible if you can't.

WA may gut its early preschool program for low-income families House and Senate Democrats have proposed allocating no money toward the state's preschool program for children under 3.

It's been proven again and again that early education pays for itself multiple times. It's an investment we absolutely need to make here in Washington as federal funds are drying up. Cutting programs like this is just unfathomable.

Some of these folks hear "lowrise residential" and they already picture the Columbia Tower next to their house, when they should really think "that brick apartment building down the street with the cute courtyard".

Twitter rolls out improved 'reply prompts' to cut down on harmful tweets | TechCrunch A year ago, Twitter began testing a feature that would prompt users to pause and reconsider before they replied to a tweet using "harmful" language --

My team at Twitter (pre-Musk) implemented something like this! It was targeting offensive replies specifically, and it was effective beyond expectations at reducing toxicity, both in the moment and in the long term. techcrunch.com/2021/05/05/t...
