You also fumbled Jenna Ortega. She’s a bonafide celebrity and as bankable as you can be without being an A-lister.

I feel like there’s a lot more to the Melissa Barrera thing too.

And you center the nostalgia act to the detriment of this compelling Core 4 cast you’ve created and invested in.

We really could’ve phased Gale & Sidney out at this point. Or saved them for something interesting. Or heck, split the franchise into the OG cast movies and the Carpenter sisters movies

It’s insane to me that you had a bonafide celebrity headliner in Jenna Ortega and just let her walk away.

You can pay Neve Campbell (who deserves it) and still build your franchise around the new blood.

There’s meat on the bone of her story. But you have to pick a lane. Do you Last Jedi Luke/Laurie Strode her and fundamentally change her into a person molded by her trauma? Or do you keep her unchanging and kinda boring… like a final girl forever preserved in amber?

I think Williamson wants to give Sidney a happy ending, but the $$$$ keeps forcing folks to pull her back in.

The husband as the police chief gets conveniently written in and out of the story so many times, it would’ve been better not to have him. Or just make them divorced. That resolves a lot of stuff.

The hard part is the Halloween reboot did this theme much better.

Tatum just kind of morphs into Sidney 2.0 after being wildly sheltered.

Sidney and Tatum is such an interesting and compelling storyline. How does constant, ongoing trauma and chaos shape your parenting? How do you raise your children to be better than you? Do you lean towards protecting or preparing?

Honestly the Scary Movie reboot trailer seemed much fresher and interesting.

If the Scream franchise continues like this, it will have become exactly the kind of scary movie it so lovingly skewered.

Oof. It was disappointing after the re-quel series that I really like. It felt like a 1st draft they hastily rushed or a 9th draft that had been picked over to the point it doesn’t really make sense.

I have so many Scream 7 thoughts.
