Yes, I really enjoyed The Man in Black book as a holiday read. Short stories are ideal. Great to catch up with Ruth again…

Oh dear, where is the reading time? Even having one paper a week for 10 weeks it is difficult to get everyone to read. No, I do not mean summarising a paper. It is about critical thinking. The papers gradually increase in difficulty. Also you have to allow for students not turning up in week 1!

This is what I don't get: With US sci & colleges under attack, why aren't universities (together/solo) mounting ad campaigns hyping all the awesome research on their campuses (fed funded or not) that benefits the (taxpayer) viewer & US? Like tv ads during NCAA games, but for research. Academicsky

I also think it still USA biased as well.

My prospective graduate student just alerted me that the DoE office that handles FLAS funding has been shut down. Funding for graduate education has been eviscerated #AcademicSky

Specifically we have been directed to ensure all participant responses align with permitted categories of "male" "female" or "prefer not to say." We are actively seeking guidance from our local IRB on how to navigate this ethically complex situation. However I feel it is important to share this as a concrete example of how the current geopolitical climate is directly impacting research in the Australian academic community... "

Good luck. I suddenly realised how much I did know when I took mine years ago. Hope you feel the same.

It worked really well when I tried it with undergraduates. They also transcribed the recording and the following week we discussed thematic analysis.

I’d start with thinking about where the interview will be. Students often forget their own personal safety because they are focusing on making the interviewee comfortable. There are some useful videos online. I’d get them designing an interview guide and then interviewing each other and recording!
