Looks like we had another supercell go bonkers in the wrong place in the wrong time again, last week it was Austin, tonight it’s the south side of the Fort Worth area. Multiple reports of hen egg to baseball sized hail in this area earlier this evening (MRMS hail swath product shown).

Thousands Evacuate in Canada as Multiple Wildfires Rage

Out-of-control wildfires prompted a provincewide state of emergency in Manitoba, Canada, where 17,000 residents are under evacuation orders as fires rage in the north and east. As of Wednesday, 22 fires were burning in the province — 11 of which were considered out of control.

I worked at NOAA and FEMA. I've had long, exhaustive conversations in recent months with those inside at high levels. Staffing is depleted, resources are critically low, and morale is rock bottom. Our hurricane defenses are down, and it's only a matter of time before we take an uppercut to the chin.

Hurricane Helene flooded Asheville, NC, the home of NCEI. Their office building lost power for several days and also lost water for weeks. The archive has been offline since 9/27 and was recently brought back up this week.
