Tawny Newsome (Mariner) has a hand in the writers’ room for SFA, she gets Trek as well as anyone today

I’d say it’s the least bad of the nutrek, and features a lot more meetings/classrooms - it is more like Lower Decks than Discovery imo

Love to see this always get blamed on voters objecting to support for a genocide and not the politicians screaming β€œshut up and vote for me”

Yeah I was totally on board for the first 2 episodes, then they took a weird detour through the Mirror Universe and picked up Mirror Georgiou which I think was supposed to be high camp but was played too straight and didn't work for me. As you said, whiplash! I did enjoy the last 2 seasons though

tbf I think Disco did get there eventually

SFA has the ensemble cast thing, which is a breath of fresh air - feels more like Lower Decks than Discovery, which I think was trying to do a TOS-style central character story that just doesn’t resonate. Trek is about teamwork and helping each other, not individual heroics!

the main reason to go after the rich is that if you don’t the entire structure of your society is predicated on the whims of people who are entirely disconnected from ordinary life

billionaires are simply too dangerous to exist, and any budgetary stuff that comes out of it is just a bonus

The GOP won despite (or because of) the base constantly tearing down all of their own politicians except Trump. The resulting lockstep conformity may not have the exact ideological outcome they all want. but there’s something for everyone and no denying it’s effective.

then say that instead! would you vote for Liz Cheney? How about Kirsten Sinema or John Fetterman?

We can’t afford another Biden because we can’t afford another Trump

Relatedly, he failed to deliver on police reforms after George Floyd and his justice department failed to stop Trump 2

The progressive problem with Biden has little to do with the economic policies and everything to do with uncritical support of a genocide

If Stephen Miller switches parties to become a Democrat, wins the dem primary, and is the candidate vs. Trump in the next election, I will not vote for Stephen Miller.

He is awful, his policies are awful, and it doesn't matter if he'd be "better" than Trump.

This is a post about Gavin Newsom.

There was a whole DS9 plot - cringy bc it was early and Bashir was still being a creep - where a wheelchair-bound person was offered a medical β€œcure” and decided not to take it

I think that’s the point - β€œborder” patrol is less about enforcing legal status than it is about an ingroup having a thug patrol to violently subjugate the outgroup

13.02.2026 02:21 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Interesting how quickly so many people devolve into thin arguments about electoral viability or abstract hypos about the quality of an immigrant when it's obvious that this is just racial for some people. Like at base the argument against open borders only makes sense from a racial perspective.

13.02.2026 02:14 β€” πŸ‘ 156    πŸ” 36    πŸ’¬ 3    πŸ“Œ 0

People can have different political opinions about immigration policy. Political differences are fine, healthy for a democracy.

But if you’re okay with this, that’s not a political opinion. That is a moral failing.

And what awaits these clients in Texas? Unspeakably cruel and inhumane treatment.

1. Rotten food. I had a client explain she had to make a half-pint of milk and an apple last every day because the other meals consisted of spoiled or rotten food. One client wasn’t fed for >36 hours.

So it’s a race: how quickly can a person’s family realize they were snatched and find a lawyer, and how quickly can that lawyer get a habeas petition of file? And is that faster than ICE can load the detainee on a plane to Texas?

It’s exhausting and terrifying. It can be life and death.

See ICE wants these cases in Texas, where Trump-infected courts are more tolerant of their antics, more biased against non-citizens, more willing to let DHS fill up concentration camps.

(Not all Texas judges, for sure. Plenty are bravely faithful to the rule of law. ICE is playing the numbers)

Meanwhile, DHS shows its contempt for the judiciary in a different way. In dozens, likely now thousands, of cases, DHS openly defies court orders.

Minnesota courts enter orders forbidding ICE from moving noncitizens who’ve filed habeas petitions out of Minnesota. They move them anyway.

I’ll call it β€œlessons from an unwilling immigration attorney.”

this is only sort of true - the Black voters in question are early primary state Black voters, particularly Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada - and even Democrats in those states skew conservative relative to other Black voters in, say, New York, Illinois, and California.
