Sawfly seems correct! I am concerned that it may be an European species rather than a US native though 😔

To my eyes it seems like Euura ribesii rather than Euura californica, but pictures of that genus are limited :(

I was trying to exhaust my Naples yellow because I bought it when I didn't know anything about oil paint lol, but now I actually kinda like how it interacts with the other colours!

Playing around with oils on paper, I like how smooth the paint application is but the paper really sucks alot of paint up. I thought I had gesso but turns out it was hardened and unusable 💀

Two gannets facing eachother, one is see through, with its skeleton visible, the other is normal but has a black iris.

Apparently if a Gannet survives the avian flu, there's a chance that its irises will turn black.
I love seeing evolution like this in real time, I wonder if the eye colour will pass down?
