Wasn't aware that many American homes are basically made of wood with only the chimney stack made of inflammable brick or concrete . Los Angeles is essentially a giant bonfire.

Got triple time and £3000 one off payment for suppotting across the flip into 2000 . Nothing went wrong but we had spent 10000 man hours making sure everything worked. It was not until 2018 when people born on 1/1/2000 tried to book that a bug was found.

He thinks there should be no immigration into the USA except for people like him (from South Africa) in US tech industry and his DOGE chum Vivek. Fallen out with extreme right over this who think that Elon's right to get extremely rich on the back of immigrants conflicts with extreme populism.

Company I use for cycling holidays in France transfers clients bikes out and back to UK. Due to custom carnet error I had just had a home visit from the HMRC. Why customs are worried about this I have no real idea, I am on holiday not smuggling bikes. £60 charge to the company.

Surprising in a country where you have your shopping packed at the checkout and an enormous number of people serve in restaurants.

I used to work on an oil rig in Viking , 200 miles NE of Shetland. Oddly missed most of the extreme storms, the best weather was when it was very occasionally dead calm and massive shoals of cod gathered safely under the platform.

Car mechanics, a large source of jobs for less academic school leavers, vulnerable with there being no clutches, cooling systems, oil changes, exhausts etc. Electrical skills will be valuable but suspect there will be a lot of diagnose and replace.

Owners not interested in season ticket holders. We turn up five minutes before kick off leave rapidly, don't visit the shop, don't spend much. They want long distance tourists flying in from around the world buying a £100s of stuff from the shop.

What is anticyclonic gloom and why is it making the UK so grey?
Elizabeth Rizzini looks at why our weather is so gloomy at the moment and ponders when things might change.
Zero minutes of sunshine so far this November for most of the British Isles. Northern Scotland in lee of mountains the only area with sunny weather, rest of us suffering from 'anticyclonic gloom'.
Some hope that an Atlantic front will clear the sky on Sunday.

Fantastic museum next to Solnhofen railway station. Trains every hour from Munich or Nuremberg . Took about 90 minutes from Munich and 30 minutes from Nuremberg (it trundles along stopping at all stations). Eichstätt Castle museum with its Solnhofen collection is a couple of stops away.

A horseshoe crab from the 149 million year old Solnhofen Limestone, Bavaria. Label suggested this is where a crab molted its shell. Note the faint track below.
Horseshoe crabs great survivors, essentially unchanged from their debut in the Triassic.

Some Gardener's Delight tomatoes picked yesterday. Nothing unusual except these started off as side shoots from cordons growing in the greenhouse that were planted in a sunny spot in early July and left as bush plant. Warm and sunny late summer here in Berkshire has helped. 100s more to collect.
