Just installed a new Xfinity XB8 router to the 2.5G switch, plus new PCs with 2.5G Ethernet ports.

Here's Ookla to SF, Xfinity to SJ, Google to who knows where, and Ookla to RIT in Rochester NY, where I have family and therefore cross-country multiplayer participants.

Pretty pretty pretty good.

Also, the only thing I watch on the big family TV while she’s away is generally game show network. I switched the channel and it stays there until she comes back and then we go back to HGTV lol

Kat is away for a business trip so I I’m going into bachelor mode. I am cooking up 2 pounds of taco meat (beef and chorizo) and that will probably be all I eat until she returns Friday night.

It was briefly trendy for white people to get Asian characters as tattoos. They had no bond or understanding of that culture, so to got called out as appropriation.

When I see Aurebesh tattoos where the first character is reversed, it's nowhere NEAR as insulting or important...but I understand!

New rig is peaking at 90 fps but solidly 55 to 60 during gameplay. World of difference because my previous 10-15 fps during big fights as not an exaggeration, it really was a slideshow.

The only weird thing was I tried to install an internal platter drive, and it would not read. Drive is fine as an external, other non-platter drives were fine internal, and I gave it its own power rail off the supply -- still just wouldn't show up in BIOS. Okay, will use as external backup.

Not to jinx it, but it appears both new Intel rigs are up and running with only the minor hiccups like broken shortcuts or trivial app reinstalls. I'm not going to really relax for a week or so and I'm sure I'll find things to optimize, but these should be solid for holiday celebrations.

While the new PC downloads/installs Win 11, BIOS updates and all that fun stuff, I'm playing one more BL4 session on the old machine before I pull the 3070

This PC is below minspec, I get 30-45fps when lucky, more like 10 during firefights. Still fun. Kat's new rig gets 60 so I'm hopeful.

When did power supplies get to looking so cool?

This is an aftermarket mount for it. That was strongly recommended by other friends who have built the traditional ones are the spring clasp and that’s what came with this, but this is supposed to be much better for heat transfer on the rectangular CPUs.

Full 10 with older external platter backups. I may not need all that space but I’m really trying to future proof this.

I am holding 10 TB of nearly weightless storage.
