The kind who accepts $400 million bribes in the form of a former flying brothel? Is this a trick question.

I promise I'll stop posting abt the Cuomo tweet eventually, but I must say this: I've lived as an adult in NYC for 14 years. I moved into my partner's rent-stabilized apt last year. It is the first time in 14 years that I have not felt deep, constant anxiety about money. It has changed my life.

He called the CDC a cesspool of corruption that lied about the COVID vaccines. Now someone has committed violence because of the same misinformation.

The police think that the man who killed a police officer at Emory University today was seeking revenge on the CDC. He had an unspecified illness that he believed was caused by the COVID19 vaccine.

Do Legal Checks on a President’s Power β€œDiminish the Votes of the Citizens Who Elected Him”? The administration is arguing that when courts restrain Donald Trump’s actions in the name of the law, they β€œdiminish the votes of the citizens who elected him” as a β€œrepresentative of the people” wie...

What's more, in a constitutional republic, earlier voting rounds count too. In respecting the rule of law and the role of coordinate branches of government, we honor democratic choices made by previous sets of voters in other moods - that, and curb the potential whims of a mob or strongman. /5, end

I add a few points of my own: supposed presidential "mandates" are not a legal concept for the very good reason that there is no objective way to identify them, discern their boundaries, or distinguish some claims of mandates from others. They are inescapably interpretation-dependent. @cato.org /4

The voting public has an interest - call it a mandate - in β€œseeing its governmental institutions follow the law.” What's more, while the Executive does have an interest in enforcing the nation’s immigration laws, its "paramount interest is the same as the judiciary’s: that justice shall be done.” /3

I quote Paul Clement's terrific memorandum on behalf of the Maryland judges in rebuttal of that notion: "In reality, it is the enduring text of the Constitution, not the preference of voters at a moment in time, that establishes the powers of the three branches of the federal government." /2

Just out from me at Cato: in its case against Maryland federal judges, the Trump administration is advancing the dangerous and open-ended argument that legal checks on a president's actions "diminish the votes of the citizens who elected him." Whoa! /1

That's gonna be discovered by John Roberts as the Hammurabi Principle on which America was secretly founded or some bullshit. But that's just window-dressing.

MAGA is at its core a Christian Nationalism movement and we cannot understand what's happening until we admit this.

The reason it's important to recognize that Los Angeles was the test for pushing the military into places like DC, is that ultimately the test failed here.

If it can fail in Los Angeles, it can fail everywhere else they try it. It will take resistance.

A thread on Christian Nationalism. We cannot understand MAGA unless we admit that its core is an end-times supremacist cult.

There's some populism accreted to MAGA, sure, but scratch the surface and take a closer look.

Yesterday on Twitter, RFK Jr. blatantly accused doctors of vaccinating patients solely for money. Earlier in the week, he cancelled $500m in funding for mRNA vaccines.

Then a man who apparently thought his illness was caused by the COVID19 vaccine fired numerous rounds at the CDC, killing a man.

They Want Missouri Education Policies to go Nationwide Curated failure

Jess Piper @piperformissouri.bsky.social writes about this, usually without looking closely at the religious roots of the project, but she does a great job of explaining how the GOP is working to do to the nation what they've done to Missouri.

Most folks don't realize Project 2025 is how these folks have been running their homes & churches for decades.

As they gained control of local & state governments, they instituted it there. Red States have been running P2025 for awhile now.

It's just on a national level since January.

Project 2025 Tracker A comprehensive, community-driven initiative to track the implementation of Project 2025's policy proposals

One fascinating thing about Project 2025 that people like @brucewilson.bsky.social and @mhairiforrest.bsky.social understand: Even at 900 pages the document doesn't convey the full Republic of Gilead scope of the Christian Nationalist ambition for paving over America.
