What's more, in a constitutional republic, earlier voting rounds count too. In respecting the rule of law and the role of coordinate branches of government, we honor democratic choices made by previous sets of voters in other moods - that, and curb the potential whims of a mob or strongman. /5, end
08.08.2025 22:07 β π 32 π 6 π¬ 1 π 0I add a few points of my own: supposed presidential "mandates" are not a legal concept for the very good reason that there is no objective way to identify them, discern their boundaries, or distinguish some claims of mandates from others. MAGA is at its core a Christian Nationalism movement and we cannot understand what's happening until we admit this.

The reason it's important to recognize that Los Angeles was the test for pushing the military into places like DC, is that ultimately the test failed here.
If it can fail in Los Angeles, it can fail everywhere else they try it. It will take resistance.
A thread on Christian Nationalism. We cannot understand MAGA unless we admit that its core is an end-times supremacist cult.
There's some populism accreted to MAGA, sure, but scratch the surface and take a closer look.

Then a man who apparently thought his illness was caused by the COVID19 vaccine fired numerous rounds at the CDC, killing a man.
Jess Piper @piperformissouri.bsky.social writes about this, usually without looking closely at the religious roots of the project, but she does a great job of explaining how the GOP is working to do to the nation what they've done to Missouri.

Most folks don't realize Project 2025 is how these folks have been running their homes & churches for decades.
As they gained control of local & state governments, they instituted it there. Red States have been running P2025 for awhile now.
It's just on a national level since January.

One fascinating thing about Project 2025 that people like @brucewilson.bsky.social and @mhairiforrest.bsky.social understand: Even at 900 pages the document doesn't convey the full Republic of Gilead scope of the Christian Nationalist ambition for paving over America.
