I genuinely do not understand the idea of hating someone for things they can't change? Just seems... kinda pointless? Country of birth, immigration status, gender identity, skin color, sex, sexuality, etc

Canada has a train line from the East to West coast if I remember correctly. China has rail all the way to Lhasa and Urumqi. Local transport is equally important too! Many places in Europe are connected by both local and long distance transit.
