Good to be on CBCβs Early Edition today with @vanartgallery.bsky.socialβs Eva Respini to talk @bcparksfdn.bsky.socialβs #PaRx collab.

What are Mark Carneyβs Liberals, Pierre Poilievreβs Conservatives and other federal parties promising when it comes to climate change, the oil and gas industry, mining and the environment? Hereβs what we know so far:

NEW: CTV cancelled a fact-checking segment in response to political pressure from Pierre Poilievreβs Conservatives
An audio recording obtained by PressProgress shows CTV cancelled an βelection misinformationβ segment with journalist Rachel Gilmore after online backlash from conservatives

The start of this project has been so finicky that it has made me not want to work on it. But now that finicky part is over and I get to move on to the fun stuff!

Coming very late to #printpromptmonday with this big installation I made in 2019, Lesser Bodies. Itβs about the collapse of chimney swift populations in the US. Not in the water, but I was inspired by the motion of water circling a drain.

This is a lovely, feel-good story if you need one, about art, shipping disasters, and strangers brought together in an effort to make things right.
You can catch the radio story on The Current podcast too, and hear how the artist and teacher have become friends and what this meant to them both.
It is not too late to act on climate change because climate change is not pass/fail. Every faction of a degree matters and is worth fighting for.
That's not propaganda or wishful thinking. It's evidence-based. Suggesting otherwise is as unscientific as climate denial, and just as damaging.

Finally back in the studio after a long hiatus. This is the start of a piece about #biodiversity and the impact of light #pollution.
27.01.2025 18:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Occasional reminder that thereβs no, βitβs too late, its overβ for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesnβt go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

Hey #ArtAdventCalendar followers, here's one from a few years ago all about #biodiversity loss, called "In The Red"

Slacked off over the weekend, but back at #ArtAdventCalendar today! Here's one honouring environmental defenders, called "For Berta (They Fear Us Because We Are Fearless)". sperlingmosaics.com/2019/03/on-t...
09.12.2024 15:00 β π 22 π 7 π¬ 0 π 0An abstract mosaic of 9 irregular squiggly vertical forms. All but one of them go from dark natural materials like shale at the bottom to brown materials in the middle (petrified wood, nut shells, sandstone) and then light materials on top (limestone, petrified wood). One of the forms is made of technological materials (gold, circuit board pieces, copper), but has the same colour gradation as the rest.
A detail view of the bottom of some of the forms, showing the contrast between the natural and human-made / technological materials.
Today's #ArtAdventCalendar is "The Problem With Billionaires" - all about how tech-bro billionaires are elbowing their way into the #climate space, betting on shiny tech fixes, and swaying policy in favour of solutions that benefit them and don't require them to change a damn thing.

Abstract mosaic made of cigarette packaging, shale, and coal - strips of paper and cardboard packaging and shale run vertically, and there is a line of cigarette butts cutting across the mosaic horizontally
Today's #ArtAdventCalendar is for the #ClimateChange folx. It's called "Smokescreen" and it's about the fossil fuel industry's dirty, shameless, and persistent misinformation campaign built on Big Tobacco's playbook (with some dirty tricks of its own).

Since there are a lot of ocean folx in my feed, how about this #ArtAdventCalendar contribution: "Everything We Touch" (from my #anthropocene series) - inspired by how NOAA found a can of Spam and a can of Bud at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. sperlingmosaics.com/2019/08/noth...

Today's contribution to #ArtAdventCalendar: "Shell Game" is a #ClimateChange mosaic all about how Big Oil is banking on plastic to keep it profitable. (Yep all those white bits are plastic.)

Here's "To aid and abet" - part of my mosaic series about #ClimateChange. This one's all about the cozy relationship between extractive industries and law enforcement.
