NYPD Bypassed Facial Recognition Ban to ID Pro-Palestinian Student Protester Barred from using Clearview AI, NYC police relied on a marshal in the fire department to run a search that turned up photos of the student at his high school graduation.

FDNY helped NYPD identify a pro-Palestinian protestor using the facial recognition tech, Clearview AI — which the NYPD isn’t allowed to use. Manhattan DA used the ID to charge a hate crime.

Even in that case, the consensus anti-Democratic party standard bearer would need to turn out something like 800,000 votes to win.

It is extremely extremely difficult to see this happening.

That's Mamdani's near worst case scenario.

Meanwhile, the wildly best case scenario for a rival is to force 2 of 3 (Adams, Cuomo, Sliwa) to drop out, consolidating the anti-Democratic nominee lane.

Again, highly, highly improbable.

But since 6/24, he has picked up endorsements from leading Dems including BK party chief, Rep. Espaillat, unions. Hard to see how even with a lackluster campaign, he doesn't start with a floor of 750,000 votes, which is what Adams got in 2021 in a landslide.

That alone would probably be enough to win the last few general elections.

Mamdani got about 566,000 votes in the RCV, 463,000 of which were 1st place. It will be very very difficult to move those numbers significantly. Sure some people might drop off, but there's every indication his campaign will also work to further expand his base with new voters.

First some context, total turnout in the last 4 general mayoral elections has been between 1 and 1.1 million. In the 3 elections before that, it peaked at about 1.5 million -- that's the envelope we are looking at.
