My dog was going nuts, doing weird things he normally doesn’t do. Then five minutes later my house shook.

We just had a 3.0 earthquake in suburban New Jersey.

Republicans are a terrible combination of not serious and dangerous. Like society-ending level of unserious and dangerous.

Yeah, this one is cool. I feel bad though, bc she’s yet to meet other 11yos who are into the same music/movies she’s into. While i know she’ll meet her peeps at some point, I feel like I kinda screwed this up. She loves Steely Dan and Velvet Underground and Wes Anderson and Christopher Guest movies

My daughter’s 11th birthday is this coming week and when my parents asked what she wanted, she said: β€œA poster of my favorite movie, Teen Wolf.”

She is over the (full) moon with this.

Inside the Crisis at the Anti-Defamation League The group used to believe the rights of Jews were inextricable from the rights of everyone else. Its war against anti-Zionism has changed everything.

Strong Bush 'You're either with us or against us' vibe from the ADL in this excellent @noahshachtman.bsky.social piece.

"Its new version of Jewish defense was zero sum and dependent on a conception of a singular Jewish viewpoint."

Republicans have been trying to eliminate the New Deal for 80 years and the Great Society for 50.

It took John Roberts 20 years, and Donald Trump 7 months of his second term.

If we believe in "God Bless America" now would be a good time for God to intervene.

oh they will definitely hold that the 14th and 15th amendments dictate that nothing can be done to ameliorate racial inequality or past racial discrimination, even in voting and representation, despite the fact that the text of both amendments clearly allows for such.

So the weird/fun/sad thing is that Republicans in Congress can stop this any time they want. They had no problems holding 10 hearings over 17 months, costing taxpayers $7 million, over Benghazi -- which yielded literally nothing. Imagine Republicans took their jobs/oaths seriously.

On a day when we see the short steps toward fascism (the president doesn't like the data, so instead of fixing the problem [which he created], he fires the messenger), the hero story on the WSJ is: Conservative women are having a moment!

The 'Trump fires stats chief' is there on the top left.

It's numbing thinking how 80 million people knowing about the corruption and the greed and the sexual assault and the convicted felonies voted for Trump for a second time!

Instead of a black woman as president, they would rather have had the nation burn. Well, congrats to them, I guess.

so beyond the firing of the commissioner of the bureau of labor statistics, putting powell on notice by typing out "Jerome 'Too Late' Powell should also be put 'out to pasture'" would be a weeks-long story + Congressional hearings.

Relatedly, let us also recall the Comey '8647' freakout.

wild how we went from taxes that went to providing social services as a safety net for those who need it to taxes that build concentration camps and services to cripple everyone but the wealthy.

I’m sure this will not have any negative effects on people who may, for example, visit abortion clinics…

as a former fledgling media scholar, i go back to postman's amusing ourselves to death where he lays out how the huxley vision of the future defeated orwell's vision. and now we are at a moment where both visions slam into each other. either way, it's a dystopian present.

i was wrong bc even though i have a vivid imagination, never thought big law/ivy league/prestigious media would crumble so fast.

Between the dissolution of the administrative state, the rise of the surveillance state, the increasing financial (let alone political power) chasm between the wealthy and everyone else, has any economic/political/etc scientist modeled out when the tsunami crashes and americans revolt?
