24.10.2025 17:59 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Next in my Spooktober run (I think I've still got 2 horror games left in me for the month) is this puppy.
If I remember correctly reviews weren't particularly kind to this one, but I've never been one to pay much attention to them anyway, and besides the tone looks pretty cool.
The stuff that frustrates you in Conscript can *really* frustrate you, but god damn this is such a cool retro 2D survival horror. Set in a WW1 scenario, it swaps scares for a heavy, thick, brutal atmosphere that showcases the visceral horrors of war.
I can see it becoming a cult classic over time.
No mention of the 2018 travesty ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ
(nice write-up, some solid takes in there!)
Happy Ninja Gaiden 4 day folks!
I won't be jumping yet as I'm still in my Spooktober marathon, but I'll be there right after that.
Tbh I have some concerns about the choice of setting & dual protagonists, but I'm also excited to see this next step in my favourite hack n' slash franchise.
11 Bit Studios are easily my favourite indie devs right now.
Their games are such a mood. Nothing quite like it out there.
One of my all-time favourites. So happy you loved it! There really isn't anything quite like it out there.
I assume you'll want to try out the sequel at some point in the future? ๐
Metal Gear Solid.
Any of them.
Also gunplay feels a lot punchier than it has any right to feel, especially since you can avoid virtually any fight.
18.10.2025 16:31 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Really enjoyed what I've played of Conscript so far. It's grim, gritty, downright tense and all in all a different approach to survival horror while keeping some of its common elements.
Wasn't sure about the pixel art style at first, but now I think it really works with the setting.
Next on the Spooktober docket is this puppy.
Don't think I've heard a bad thing about Conscript yet, and I'm intrigued by this choice of setting. Not many horror games choose WW1 as background - Amnesia The Bunker is one of the few I remember doing it and it worked super well.
Don't be mean, she's probably a tasteful gal and heard you're a sucker for KCD2 too ๐ญ
15.10.2025 14:38 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0For sure. It's got such a particular mood to it. It's kinda crazy but I sort of prefer it over AW2 just on vibes alone
15.10.2025 14:37 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Good game! Post Trauma is a clear homage to the old survival horror classics like the OG Resident Evil and (especially) Silent Hill, and though it often walks too close to its inspirations, it also scratches that itch very competently.
Desperately needs some patches though.
Yeah, I'm just starting ch4 but already had to look up the solution for 2 puzzles. For the most part they're decent imo but a few of them could be more intuitive for sure.
But like you said creepy atmosphere. I'm mainly here for the vibes.
Well this is certainly more interesting than I initially thought it was going to be. Pretty good old-school survival horror from what I've seen so far.

13.10.2025 15:31 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Think I've decided on my next spooktober game.
It released earlier this year and it was in a couple showcases before, but I don't think I've heard anyone talk about it at all.
It also didn't review particularly well, but I often don't agree with reviewers so we'll see ๐ค
I was drawn to Kholat by its looks and because it's based on a story I've always been fascinated by (the Dyatlov Pass incident), but despite its sound ideas and audiovisual chops, most of its execution is quite disappointing.
A shame really. There's something cool here.
A lil beast ๐ฅ
12.10.2025 00:43 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Shoutout to the flare gun, the unsung hero of the entire Alan Wake franchise.
11.10.2025 22:52 โ ๐ 9 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Incredible shots!
11.10.2025 15:27 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Seriously, one of the things I appreciate the most in the Alan Wake series is its classy homage to some timeless horror behemoths.
They're not exactly subtle, but the moment you realise you're in *those* types of places, the whole vibe goes up a notch.
And that's a wrap up on the Alan Wake saga for now!
Loved AW2 just as much as the OG, though maybe for some different reasons. Not everything worked for me, but the things this game does well are both incredible & impactful.
I don't think Remedy will ever make a game I won't enjoy.

10.10.2025 17:21 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Another Spooktober, another perfect time to bring up one of the best survival horror games of the past decade.
Play The Evil Within 2, folks!
Alan Wake 2 keeps singing in my face ๐ญ
