Oh I've got no doubt I'd have played it much sooner if I were a HP fan. Even so I'm thinking it'll be a fun time regardless. And even if I find there's tons of bloat I'll just focus on the main story at that point, no real harm done.

That's good advice for sure. I normally don't do a lot of side stuff in these types of games unless I'm really enjoying the world and gameplay loop.

Happy I decided to have the folks over at discord choose a game for me every month and this is a good example why. I had no idea when I'd get to this but they made it easy for me.

My *only* exposure to Harry Potter is the 1st movie, so I'm curious to see how it'll land with me.

Really couldn't wait so I did something I hadn't done in over 20 years. I played a demo.

Vibe, art style, backgrounds, music, combat, start menu. I loved everything about it. If this is anything to go by, Replaced will easily end up as a 2026 favourite.

A puzzle platformer that's easy to recommend even if you're not into puzzle platformers.

American Arcadia offers a cool spin on the surveillance theme, with on-the-nose social commentary and varied mechanics that keep things fun and rarely frustrate.

Glad I finally got to it.

Haha can't blame you, I forgot about it myself when I realised it hadn't been released on Xbox then remembered it again once it got ported - though ended getting it on steam 😂

Gameplay feels really clean and fluid so far, though camera controls (you handle CCTV at times) take some getting used to.

Bro I'm already a fan! Engaging from the get go, awesome take on the surveillance concept, cool transitions form 2D side-scrolling to 3D 1st person, simple but fluid platforming... still early in my playthrough of course but just great stuff all around.

Decided on my next game. Admittedly I don't know much about American Arcadia and not many seem to talk about it, but I remember really enjoying the vibe of the trailers I saw for it.

What at first felt like a point & click whodunnit - akin to The Name of the Rose - turned into an engaging story that spans decades and offers quite a bit to like and get attached to.

Maybe a bit longer than necessary, but I really enjoyed my time with The Pillars of the Earth overall.

Starting the 3rd and final book of The Pillars of the Earth. Surprisingly long for a point & click style game, but I guess it makes sense since it's based on a massive book.

Still really enjoying it though, and the story definitely gets darker than I gave it credit for.

Not sure how much the game deviates from it but I'm enjoying the story for sure.

The Pillars of the Earth definitely won't be everyone's cup of tea especially when it comes to pacing, but man this hand-drawn art style alone is so appealing to me.

Yeah bro it's really cool! Love the ergonomics and the 8" screen is super immersive. Wasn't sure how I'd fare with a handheld at first but it's actually the only device I've played on this year so far.

Started playing The Pillars of the Earth on a whim and I gotta say I'm enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would.

Interesting how perspectives can be so different on this. I also think I would've been hotter on the sequel if I'd started with that instead.

A good thought experiment. I personally think they could've shipped a better product and successfully continued on with the franchise had they been given appropriate conditions, but at the same time such a short dev cycle compared to Fallout 1 also tells me they were already against the ropes.

Yeah the BGS games clearly seem to have taken inspiration from 2 rather than 1. Though as you say I do think they went overboard with it, which was especially more noticeable to me since I've played this almost immediately after the 1st game.

I started on the TV but ended up switching to the Legion Go S lol. Just looked nicer and cleaner on the 8" screen than it did stretched out on a bigger screen. But I did play with mouse & keyboard
