‪As artists, we work with context. The context of colour schemes, the context of light and dark, and we make our subjects look good within whatever context they are placed.‬ This means that if you do your lineart first, before you have mapped out light and colour, you are working with only the context of of a blank background. Therefor, you work in context. You make it look good with its current environment. This means that when you add colour, it can feel clunky and off. You might struggle getting it to work and feel cohesive- because it was literally designed to be absent of colour. You drew it without the colour. If you want to do lineart that works with colour and light, you gotta do your lineart AFTER mapping colour, light and environment. ‪Take these doodles of Caspian, for example. In my opinion, the isolated lineart of fig. 1 looks better than the isolated lineart of fig. 2. ‬ And, in my opinion, the coloured version of fig. 2 looks better than Fig. 1- the line art has better harmony with the colour. That is because of the context each doodle was drawn in. Fig. 1 was drawn lineart first. So the lineart looks better within its isolated and uncoloured context. Fig. 2 was drawn lineart second: it was drawn with the context of colour and form, so of course it looks goofy when you take that context away

13th Hour

This one truly took so long to paint ;_; I've always loved paintings with lots of tiny hidden details but couldn't work on those very often because of my hand injury. But I decided to really indulge this time.

A green horse diving through murky water, its tail and mane mixed with reeds carried by a trail of bubbles. Surrounding the horse is a mixture of aquatic plants flowing in the same direction.
