It works great if you have many samples, but might be a little expensive if all you need it for is UV/Vis. We also have a very old Cary Varian spectrophotometer that still works great!

We've traditionally used N. benthamiana for transient color assays in our lab. We recently tried the same assay in N. tabacum and the results are โจstunningโจ! This plant was injected with an anthocyanin-activating R2R3-MYB on the left, and empty plasmid on the right.

The three species are Mimulus verbenaceus, Mimulus cardinalis, and Mimulus parishii. Each plant is secured in a separate 250 ml flask using an orange plastic collar and a foam plug. The plants looks healthy and happy.
We've been growing monkeyflowers hydroponically for the past few months using the design by @atinygreencell.bsky.social. The plants are doing great, and this has given us the opportunity to experiment with some fun chemical treatments! The aesthetic appeal is also a nice bonus!
