What are your thoughts on Freida McFadden's work? π€ #booksky #readingcommunity
What writing has taught me this week:
1. If a sentence makes me feel clever, it probably needs to be cut.
2. Pacing improves more from what I remove than what I add.
3. The first draft is for me - the edit is for the reader.

Thank you, Philip. It's my favourite pastime, so I try not to drain the joy from it with rigid planning. I keep a loose deadline, but give myself room for breaks and bursts of creativity. Itβs really helped me maintain my love for writing π€
04.09.2025 12:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Same here. Usually just rereading the last chapter is enough to get me back into the headspace, but if itβs been a while Iβll go back a few chapters to fully immerse myself - I always end up making more edits along the way π
04.09.2025 12:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Thatβs a refreshing perspective. I tend to go back and forth between perfecting as I go and racing through. I think it reflects how excited I get about certain scenes - sometimes they just pour out - but it definitely makes editing a bit of a mess!
03.09.2025 21:06 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 020+ novels is very impressive! Experience and preplanning count for a lot. And I agree, rushing a story can definitely take the joy out of it, not to mention the quality.
03.09.2025 16:20 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Do you find your more recent work has taken a similar amount of time, or has your process changed with experience?
03.09.2025 16:17 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Sounds like weβre in the same boat! People always say to just write it all out and edit later, but I actually enjoy editing as I go - itβs part of the process for me.
03.09.2025 16:16 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I was the exact same... Iβve got two drafts, but oneβs my main focus. I started it after COVID, though it sat untouched for a while. This year Iβve really committed, and Iβm aiming to finish it in the next two months and pass it to literary agents π«°πΌ
03.09.2025 16:15 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Wow, six months is incredible! What did you change in your process to cut the time down so much?
03.09.2025 16:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Thank you Jennifer! With juggling writing with a job and personal life, a year is very impressive! Mine is taking a while longer... honestly it sat untouched for a while π«£
03.09.2025 16:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Early success is a scam. Great things take time.

It may seem like a small milestone, but having my own website still feels surreal!
In this small corner of the internet, you will find short stories I have written, and one day, hopefully, my first novel.

That sounds about right! I think the mental breakdown is just part of the character developmentβ¦ for the writer π«£
