The book is set in an alternative Britain, beset on both sides with human kingdoms separated by sea. It clearly uses British fae folk as inspiration. Why is it a crime to redraw the political lines and keep the geography the same?

I’m surprised at how many people are upset the author “isn’t even trying”, when the book is clearly set in an alternative faerie version of England. There’s even mainland Europe with human kingdoms to the east, including that one country with all the tulip fields.

The names sure are simple though.

Sigh. My heart weeps. I can’t fathom the mindset that sticking around and being #6,000,001 is somehow righteous, if you otherwise have the capacity to do something about it.

Our lives count in these statistics too. And figuring out paths to escape, and helping others find them, is resistance.

Who says it’s surrender?? Surrender is the exact opposite. Being a targeted minority means needing to survive. Fighting is surviving — not laying down and accepting.

I expect there *will* be a lot of surrendering, arguably even that there already is. But that takes the form of apathy, not survival.
